Product Canvas

Learning Goal: Create sustainable opportunities for people to thrive and flourish.

The Product Canvas

The Product Canvas helps you create a product/service by capturing the critical ideas and requirements. The big picture and details of the product will be detailed by covering user interaction, the functionality, the design, and operational qualities such as performance. The hope is to clearly define what you are developing so that an accurate SWOT analysis can be performed. Without this canvas being completed, you cannot move forward.

1. Name (the product)

This is pretty simply. Name the product.

2. Mission (why make this product)

Your overarching goal. Beyond the product, what are you looking to accomplish that was stated in your purpose to impact statement. Please refer to your document from the beginning of the year in your portfolio.

3. Metrics (measuring success)

How are you going to measure the success of the product. State what you are looking to accomplish with the product and how you will define whether or not this has taken place?

4. Picture (show me the vision)

Products should be detailed pictures. Focus on the key features by using zoom in points in the four corners of the document. The middle can be used to show a rough sketch. In the event that you have a service, you will need to use a storyboard to explain the totality of the user experience.

5. Product Details (written explanation of the image)

This is a written explanation detailing everything there is to know about the product and service. Explain exactly how yours will work and the details that make it unique to the competition.
