Y9 Prefects

The Year 9 Prefects play are an active and creative group, who play a crucial role in some key events for the school.

Year 9 prefects are key drivers of the transition process for welcoming new Y9 students to SIS. They are invited into school on the first day for new Y9 students and help to guide them through the first day of their life at the school.

In term 1 the Year 9 prefects act as front line ambassadors to the school, as they lead the tours of the school for open day. This is a great opportunity to be involved in a large school event, providing valuable experience for any future event or role in the school. Not only showing our school to many prospective parents, but explaining the day to day working of the school and answering questions and sharing their own experiences.

Throughout the school year, Year 9 Prefects regularly meet to discuss and plan events to bring Family Bauhinia together. These events may be large whole family events such as dance offs, talent shows, door decoration competitions  or smaller type activities like board games day, live performances in the Space, hand print mural. The idea behind all this is to add a little buzz, collaboration and fun for our Y7, Y8 and Y9 family.

Application for Y9 prefect:

Students can nominate themselves for the role of a Y9 prefect at the end of Term 3 in Year 8, in which they will be given a chance  to state why they are a suitable candidate and the skills in that they will bring to the role. Students do not need to have been Y8 prefects prior to applying. When considering this role, think about the time given outside school classes (Open day this year was a Friday afternoon that clashed with Y9 interhouse). Attending meetings and contributing ideas are also important skills, alongside confidence meeting and speaking to new people.
