Y8 Prefects are responsible for ensuring equipment is signed in and out of the register, that all equipment and games are used responsibly and that students are using The SPACE in a way that means it is a safe and comfortable environment for all.

Y8 Prefects also ensure all students are happy and enjoying free-time, and can be called upon if a peer needs help making friends or navigating free time.

Y8 Prefects also demonstrate and develop their communication skills by reminding students of key rules for safety and maintaining a pleasant environment.

Recent Roles

Many of our Y8 Prefects played a key role in the Induction Day for new students joining Year 8 at SIS this term. The Prefects supported an assembly and activities in The SPACE before leading their own tours around the school.

The Prefects demonstrated excellent commitment to the school (coming in before classes started), leadership and communication skills which they will use throughout their school career.

Recruitment Process

Y7 students can nominate themselves for the role of prefect at the end of Term 3, where they will outlines why they feel they are a good candidate and the skills they will bring to the role. Students should consider the time commitment before applying, Prefects typically have one duty in The SPACE per week, and may be called upon for special events throughout the term.

The students who have nominated themselves are then verified by their Tutor and class Teachers before being asked to become and Prefect in Term 1 of Year 8.
