Simulating a Printer - Microsoft XPS Document Writer:
A virtual printer is like a software version of a physical printer.
Windows Server 2019 comes with a built-in virtual printer called "Microsoft XPS Document Writer."
This is a simulated printer that allows you to create electronic documents.
Installing the Virtual Printer:
Open the "Control Panel" on the virtual machine.
Go to "Devices and Printers."
In the search bar you can type printer to speed the process up
View devices and printers
If you already have Microsoft Print to PDF and/or Microsoft XPS Document Writer, then you don't need to add a Printer
If you don't have it, follow the next few instructions
Click on "Add a printer."
Choose "Add a local printer," even though it's virtual.
Select "Microsoft XPS Document Writer" from the list.
Complete the installation by following on-screen instructions.
Open a web page through Internet Explorer
If this screen comes up, 'Use recommended security...' and
Press OK
Printing a Test Document:
Right-click on the page and select Print
Choose "Print" for either Print to PDF or XPS
Save the document with your full name
Include a screenshot of the virtual printer in the "Devices and Printers" window.
When you open your file in Virtual Box there won't be any default programs to open the file with, so I suggest installing Microsoft Edge (or Google Chrome). The latest browsers can all open PDFs.
You will use this program that you installed for
Digital Support - LO 5 - 5.4 Install, Configure, Test & Deploy (google.com) - but we'll come back to this later
Save the File
Run it
Don't allow any of the syncing of data
Go to where you saved your file and the computer (Windows) will ask you which program you would like to open it with
Make sure your screenshot shows your full name that you saved in a previous step
Include this in your report
