Beauty and Excellence

What do I bring

Appreciation of beauty and excellence

What did I take a picture of ?

A rotten tree with a spider web

What does it represent?

What I bring to York college is my appreciation of beauty and excellence. More specify appreciation of nature. I love nature and the outdoors. I spent a large part of my childhood outside in nature and it taught me that nature is beautiful and important. It taught me that if I take a moment to look around and take it all in, in that moment you can see extraordinary things that you otherwise wouldn't even notice.

I decided to go for a walk at the creek near my house. I found a rotting tree. I almost just walked by it without a second thought. Then I took an extra second to take a closer look and I realized it's not all ugly and when I looked closer, I became fascinated by all the things growing and living on it. I took multiple different pictures on my walk and when I looked back at those pictures, I saw that this tree was most intriguing and beautiful. I thought it was interesting that I found a rotting tree with a spiderweb and dead bugs more beautiful than colorful flowers. As I thought about this more, I concluded that if I didn't stop and just look around, I would have walked by that tree without a second thought and missed out on its beauty. I realized that there is beauty and good things everywhere. You might just have to take an extra second and open your eyes a bit more, then you don't just see a rotten tree, you see an ecosystem you see how nature really is. That old dead tree lived its life then died but it gave an opportunity for other animals and organisms to grow and live. This taught me a lesson that sometimes you must look past the ugly and bad so you can see the beauty, importance, and goodness in nature. I took this realization I made, and I have been trying to apply it to more parts of my life. I hope others do too because you see so much better and happiness.
