What Do I Bring to York College?
I bring love to York College.
I took a picture of coffee beans, because of my love of coffee. I first got into coffee when I went for espresso training for my job over a year ago. Ever since I went to training I’ve become more invested in coffee. How some shots of espresso taste more bitter than others or how decaf beans look different from fully caffeinated beans. I’ve learned how to calibrate espresso machines and where different beans originated from.
A picture of coffee beans perfectly represented my expression for love because of how much it reminds me of my job. I will always love and appreciate my job for all they have done for me. My coworkers have been my family for the past four years and I continue to work with them every time I go home and every time I go home. My job taught me how to balance school and work, how to communicate with others, and how to handle high pressure situations.
As a first generation student, there is a lot of pressure to succeed. Everyone wants better for you, especially you, but you don’t always have a clear vision of what that looks like. It is especially hard when the people that you do see that are successful, don’t even look like you. Being a first generation student is incredibly difficult, because you do not have anyone around you that went through the same process and it becomes really lonely. However, it is also really amazing to see everyone support your choice of going to school, to see them proud of you as you move on.
I take everything that my job has taught me, wherever I go. I took my love I learned for coffee and people to college with me. Coffee reminds me of the love I have for everyone at home, but also all the amazing people that I have met at my job. I bring love to York College of Pennsylvania. I love learning and people. Coffee continues to help me through the day by not only caffinating me but by reminding me that I have a lot to fowardward to at home.
