This project was created by First Year Seminar Students attending York College of Pennsylvania in conjunction with Cultural Alliance of York County
In our First Year Seminar course, our students were asked to share their unique stories with the college community in a photograph. After learning about the creative process from a local photographer, Carla B. Long, they visually depicted their strengths and attributes. The photo was supposed to answer the question, "What do you bring? What is your First-Generation or York College of Pennsylvania (YCP) proud story of the value, cultural, identity, or character strength you bring to campus." Their photograph should frame their experience, culture, resilience, or background.
Everyone began asking the same question - "What do I bring to YCP?" They were then ask how they would photograph that idea.
Students were given several building blocks in how to make their photo - capturing juicy details, changing their point of view, and following the rule of thirds.
Students made several photos throughout the course of the class.
Students shared their work on in a Shutterfly Share Site, and learned how to give - Glows and Grows. Their final step four is an Art Show in Campbell Hall
