The Bible Does Not Teach Two Natures at the Same Time!
***What Does 2 Peter 1:4 TRULY mean?
Here is 2 Peter 1:4 from the KJV. “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”
The purpose of this Verse Study is to learn three things.
Number 1. What do the words “Divine nature” mean in the light of the whole word of Almighty God.
Number 2. How to study the Bible by using the Verse-by-Verse method of connecting the related verses of Scripture.
This method of studying the Bible differs from the convention Verse-by-Verse study of remaining in the same book of the Bible.
Number 3. Does the Bible itself teach us that Jesus had two natures at the SAME time DURING the days of his flesh, one Divine, and one human, as church TRADITION teaches us?
Or does the Bible itself actually teach us that Jesus had one nature at a time, a fully human nature during the days of his flesh, and then the human Son of God was highly exalted to be made a PARTAKER of the Divine nature of immortality after the cross and resurrection.

When Did Jesus Become God’s ETERNAL Son?
Let us begin this Verse Study by reading a quote that I found on another website explaining what the council at Chalcedon in 451 AD was all about.
“The Council of Chalcedon was called in 451 CE by the Roman Emperor Marcian (r. 450-457) to settle debates regarding the nature (hypostases, "reality") of Christ that had begun at two earlier meetings in Ephesus (431 CE and 439 CE).
The question was whether Christ was human or divine, a man who became God (through the resurrection and ascension) or God who became a man (through the incarnation, "taking on flesh"), and how his humanity and divinity affected his essence and being, if at all.”
In other words, ALL Christians, at that time in history, agreed that Jesus was DEITY or had Divine NATURE.
There was no question, debate, or controversy among Christians during the second and fifth centuries as to whether or not Jesus had Divine NATURE.
But rather, the question or DEBATE was HOW was Jesus Deity? When was Jesus Deity? Did the Son of God ALWAYS exist as Deity? Or was the human Son of God GIVEN Deity by his God and Father?
In other words, did the Son of man, Jesus, become a Deity to be under and subject to his God and Father after the cross and resurrection?
Or did a pre-existing God become a man, who then remained fully God during the days of his flesh having BOTH natures at the SAME time, one Divine and one human, DURING the days of his FLESH, as church TRADITION teaches us?
What does the Bible ITSELF actually teach us in SIMPLICITY?
Let’s find out by doing a Verse-by-Verse study comparing RELATED verses of Scripture.
The first thing that I want to point out is that 2 Peter 1:4 is the only verse in the entire Bible that has the phrase, “Divine Nature” in the same verse of Scripture.
The word “divine” is only found three times in the New Testament, one time in Hebrews 9:1, and the other two times in 2 Peter 1, verse 3, and verse 4.
And in none of those three verses of Scriptures do the Apostles of Jesus teach us about Jesus having two NATURES at the SAME time DURING the days of his flesh.
So then, where did the church doctrine of the Deity of Jesus come from, seeing that the Apostles of Jesus did not teach us that Jesus had two nature at the same time during the days of his flesh.
Keep in mind that quote from another website, which tells us what the Council at Chalcedon was all about.
It was about whether Jesus was made to be a PARTAKER of Divine Nature after the cross and resurrection, or whether Jesus alway possessed Divine Nature by the always existing God the Son, the second person of a Godhead Trinity God, became a man, but yet remained the fully Almighty God during the days of his flesh.
What does the Bible ITSELF actually teach us in simplicity?
Let us take a closer look at 2 Peter 1:4 by reading a little more context, and then we will COMPARE Scripture with Scripture by doing a Verse-by-Verse study connecting the RELATED verses of Scripture so that you can clearly see “the big picture”.
2 Peter 1:1-13.
“Simon Peter, a servant and an Apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious FAITH with us through the righteousness of God and our Savior Jesus Christ:
2 Peter 1:2. Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the KNOWLEDGE of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
2 Peter 1:3. According as His Divine power has given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the KNOWLEDGE of him that has called us to glory and virtue:
2 Peter 1:4. Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious PROMISES: that by these you might be PARTAKERS of the Divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
2 Peter 1:5. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your FAITH virtue; and to virtue knowledge;”
You can read the rest of the context in verses 6-13, concerning what we are to add to our faith so that we will never fall.
But for now, I want you to use common sense and simple logic by answering the following questions.
#1. Does that undeniable fact that Jesus has Divine nature prove that Jesus is Almighty God Himself in the flesh?
#2. If possessing Divine nature proves that Jesus is Almighty God Himself, then does that mean that we shall also become Almighty God Himself in the flesh when we are made to become PARTAKERS of the Divine nature at the coming of Jesus?
#3. Or does possessing Divine nature simply mean being made a PARTAKER of eternal life, never to die again?
What does the Bible ITSELF actually teach us in the light of the whole word of Almighty God.
Let’s find out.
First of all, we see the word PROMISES, as in, exceedingly great and very precious promises that are given to us so that we might be made PARTAKERS of the Divine nature.
So then, by doing a Verse-by-Verse study by comparing the verses that have the word “promise”, and the related words in them, then we can learn what God and His Son Jesus have promised that we should inherit along with Jesus.
In 1 John 2:25,26, we read that one of the promises that we have been given is “eternal life”, if we remain in God by remaining in His Son, Jesus.
Let’s go ahead and read those verses, while keeping in mind that many antichrists had already entered into the world to DEPART from the TRUE FAITH to no longer believe the DOCTRINE of “Christ”.
1 John 2:25,26.
“And this is the PROMISE that he has promised us, even eternal life.
1 John 2:26. These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.”
Again, according to the context, it was the antichrists who were deceiving Christians even during the days of the Apostle John.
The Greek word that is translated as “seduce” means to cause some to stray away from the truth, as is, cause some to be deceived by following another belief, which was anti “Christ”.
The word “Christ” means both Messiah and ANOINTED.
Obviously, they would not be Christians if they departed from being believers in Jesus as the Messiah.
So then, to me, the antichrist Christians were deceiving other Christians to depart from the TRUE faith that the Apostles of Jesus teach to follow the belief in ANOTHER Jesus and a different gospel.
And, to me, that DIFFERENT gospel is the Roman Catholic teaching of the doctrine of the Trinity that took over 300 years to be formed.
Again, keep in mind the debate and controversy during that time in history was not concerning whether or not Jesus had Divine NATURE.
For all Christians back then believed that Jesus had Divine nature.
But rather, the controversy was over the two questions.
Question #1.
Did the Son of MAN, Jesus, BECAME a God to be under and subject to his God and Father?
Question #2.
Did God Himself BECOME a MAN by either manifesting Himself into the form of a man, or an always pre-existed God the Son, a second person of a Godhead Trinity God was sent down from heaven to be incarnated to made a partaker of flesh but yet remain the fully Almighty God at the same time, having two natures during the days of his flesh, on divine, and one human.
To me, the answer is simply, choose what the Bible ITSELF plainly teaches and throw out the man-made TRADITIONS that were ADDED to the Bible by the Roman Catholic Church.
All that any Christian needs to do is to read the Bible for themselves to see that Jesus only had ONE nature at a time and the FIRST nature of Jesus was FLESH, according to the Apostle Paul and ALL of the other Apostles of Jesus.
Notice that Paul says that they once KNEW Jesus after the FLESH, but now, they no longer know Jesus after the flesh.
2 Corinthians 5:16.
“Wherefore, henceforth, we know no man after the FLESH: yea, though we have known Christ after the FLESH, yet now, henceforth we know him no more.”
The context is about Jesus dying of the cross for the sins of the world so that we can receive eternal life through faith in God’s gift of righteousness.
Clearly, the Apostle Paul teaches us that during the days of the FLESH of Jesus, all of the Apostles of Jesus knew and understood that the Son of God was a human being.
But after the cross and resurrection, they came to understand that the human Son of God ENTERED into GLORY to be GIVEN the Divine nature of ETERNAL life, never to die again.
And the Apostle John, the same Apostle who wrote John 1:1 also wrote John 17:22, which is where Jesus promised to give us who believe, the SAME GLORY that his God GAVE to him after the cross and resurrection.
Let’s go ahead and read that verse of Scripture as well.
John 17:1.
“Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
John 17:21. That they all may be ONE; as thou, Father, are in me, and I in You, that they also may be ONE in us: that the world may believe that You have sent me.
John 17:22. And the GLORY, which You GAVE me, I have given them; that they may be ONE, even as we are ONE:”
So then, if Jesus being one with the Father makes Jesus to be Almighty God Himself in the flesh, then that would consequently mean that we shall also be made to become Almighty God Himself as well.
And obviously, all Christians know and understand that we will not become Almighty God Himself.
But yet, some Christians still cling to the church TRADITION that God BECAME a MAN, as in, God became the Son of MAN, Jesus, through what they call the INCARNATION.
Let’s take a moment and look at the Orthodox Christians definition of “incarnation”.
I will leave the links so that you can do your own due diligence to read the other side of this controversy.
The emphasis is mine.
“Incarnation [N]: that act of grace whereby Christ took our human nature into union with his Divine Person, became man.
Christ is both God and man. Human attributes and actions are predicated of him, and he of whom they are predicated is God.
A Divine Person was united to a human nature (Acts 20:28 ; Romans 8:32 ; 1 Corinthians 2:8 ; Hebrews 2:11-14 ; 1 Timothy 3:16 ; Galatians 4:4 , etc.).
The union is hypostatical, i.e., is personal; the two natures are not mixed or confounded, and it is perpetual.”
However, to me, the Bible ITSELF actually teaches the exact opposite, which is that the Son of MAN, Jesus, a HUMAN being, was made PERFECT by his God and Father to be GLORIFIED with the Divine nature.

The TRUTH of the matter is that the human Son of God was GRANTED to be seated on his God’s throne to rule over the earth for a LITERAL 1000 years during the world to come for the purpose of Almighty God judging Satan and the fallen angel by His faithful and truthful WITNESSES.
And Jesus promised us who believe that if we OVERCOME the world, even as he has overcome the world, then it will be granted for us to sit on thrones to rule and reign with Jesus during the world to come.
Please read the following verses of Scripture and notice that even after the Son of MAN, Jesus, was GLORIED and made to become Lord after the cross and resurrection, he still calls the Father his God, even four times in the same verses of Scripture.
Revelation 3:21.
“To him that overcomes will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.”
Revelation 3:11,12.
“Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which you have, that no man take your crown.
Revelation 3:12. Him that overcomes will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.”
Please read the two-part study on the new name that God gave to Jesus after the cross and resurrection.
To summarize this Verse Study on 1 Peter 1:4, the mere FACT that this is the ONLY verse in the entire Bible that has the words, “the Divine Nature” in it, is absolute proof that the Apostles did not teach the doctrine of the Deity of Jesus, which dogmatically demands that Jesus had TWO natures at the SAME time DURING the days of his flesh, one divine, and one human.
And Trinitarian Christians claim the Biblical Unitarian Christians have DEPARTED from the true faith.
But as you have clearly seen in this Bible study, it was the “antichrist” Christians who DEPARTED from the TRUE faith, according to 1 John 2:18,19 and 2 John 1:7-9.
1 John 2:18,19.
“ Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
1 John 2:19. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.”
2 John 1:7-9.
“For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
2 John 1:8. Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
2 John 1:9. Whosoever transgresses, and abides not in the doctrine of Christ, has not God. He that abides in the doctrine of Christ, he has both the Father and the Son.”
Plain and SIMPLE, the doctrine of Christ means the teaching of the ANOINTING that came and dwelt in the flesh of the Son of MAN, Jesus, to empower him to overcome sin and offer himself as a sacrifice to his God for our sins, according to Hebrew 9:14 and many other passages of Scripture.
Also, please read the study called “Are Christians Who Believe in the Trinity Antichrists?”
Some of you may be wondering why God would ALLOW this to happen to the his church.
I mean, why would God allow Satan to DECEIVE the WHOLE world, according to Revelation 12:9?
The short answer is that it is a part of God’s plan that He has kept secret from Satan until after Satan has fulfilled the PROPHECY in Revelation 12:9.
And now God is fulfilling another prophecy in Daniel 12:3,4 where many shall run to and fro in the Bible and their knowledge shall increase to become wise to lead many to righteousness in the last days right before the coming of Jesus.
Thanks for reading, and may God bless you richly as you continue to seek the TRUTH of the WHOLE word of Almighty God.
And to me, the truth concerning who Jesus TRULY is, according to the Bible ITSELF, is the Biblical Unitarian view of Jesus.
Once Christians, Jews, Muslims, and even atheists understand the REASON that Yahweh CREATED the Son of MAN, Jesus, was to have DOMINION over the work of Yahweh’s hands.
And after you understand that the REASON that Yahweh did that is to STILL His ENEMIES, Satan and the fallen angels.
Then you can understand that God made His human Son to become “a” Lord, “a” King, and “a” God, under and subject to his God and Father in order to JUDGE Satan and the fallen angels.
