Are You Praying the Our Father CORRECTLY?
***What Does Matthew 6:13 TRULY mean?
Here is Matthew 6:13 from the KJV. “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”
Did Jesus teach us in Matthew 6:13 that Almighty God the Father LEADS us into temptation?
To me, the answer is No! Absolutely NOT!
For you see, that interpretation of verse 13 in Matthew chapter 6 contradicts James 1:13, which clearly teaches us that God does NOT tempt any man with evil.
And thus, Matthew 6:13, along with Luke 11:4, are incorrectly translated and misunderstood.

Does God LEAD us unto Temptation?
Then Why Pray Lead us NOT into Temptation?
Rather, Pray, You do NOT Lead us into Temptation!
In the past, I have always WRONGLY prayed this prayer in Matthew 6:9-13, commonly called the “Our Father”, as a prayer of REQUEST or asking Almighty God the Father to give us our daily bread and also asking God to forgive us of our sins.
But after doing this study on Matthew 6:13, I now see this prayer as actually intended to be a prayer of CONFESSION of faith.
Let me explain what I mean by this by writing out this prayer in my understanding of HOW we should be praying to our heavenly Father.
Matthew 6:9-13 in my understanding.
“After this MANNER, therefore, you should pray: Our Father Who is in heaven, Holy is Your name.
Matthew 6:10. Your kingdom comes. Your will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Matthew 6:11. You give us this day our daily bread.
Matthew 6:12. And You forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
Matthew 6:13. And You do NOT lead us into temptation, but rather, You deliver us from evil: For the kingdom is Your kingdom, and the power is Your power, and the glory is Your Glory, for ever. Amen.”
And to me, that is the TRUE, sound Biblical meaning of Matthew 6:13.
For you see, in the light of the whole word of Almighty God, there is no darkness at all in God.
1 John 1:5.
“This then is the message which we have heard of Him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.”
And the brother of Jesus, the Apostle James, he teaches us in James 1:13 that Almighty God is NOT the one who tempts us.
James 1:13.
“Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempts He any man:”
Also, James 1:2 says when we FALL into temptation, as opposed to when you are led into temptation.
My point is that Jesus ALSO taught us to pray AGAINST being led into temptation.
And thus, the INTENDED meaning of the words of Jesus in Matthew 6:13 could not possibly mean that we are to ask Almighty God, the Father, to not LEAD us into temptation.
For you see, when you truly think about it, you are actually begging God, saying, please God, do not lead me into temptation, as if God is intentionally leading you, guiding you, and directly you on a path to be tempted with EVIL.
So no! That is not the intended meaning of the words of Jesus!
Otherwise, Jesus would be teaching us to pray AGAINST the will of God, who “supposedly” leads us into temptation.
Matthew 26:41.
“Watch and pray, that you enter NOT into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
You see how the “traditional” understanding of ASKING God to not LEAD us into temptation contradicts the words of Jesus in Matthew 26:41.
Mark 14:38.
“Watch you and pray, LEST you enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.”
The English word “lest” is translated from a compound Greek word which carries the meaning of the purpose of doing something, so that or in order that something does NOT happen.
In other words, the PURPOSE of praying in this verse is for us to not enter into temptation.
So then, if Jesus “intended” his words in Matthew 6:13 to mean that God Himself LEADS us into temptation, then Jesus would be teaching us to pray AGAINST the Father’s will.
For you see, why would God LEAD us to do something that is not His will?
In other words, according to church TRADITION, God Himself LEADS us into temptation.
I say church tradition, because that is how leaders in the church have traditionally TRANSLATED Matthew 6:13.
And thus, according to church TRADITION, it has supposedly become God’s WILL for us to be led by Almighty God Himself into temptation.
But by comparing Scripture with Scripture, we can clearly see that the “traditional” church understanding and translation of Matthew 6:13 does not AGREE with the rest of God’s word.
Therefore, to me, I believe that the MANNER of how Jesus INTENDED us to pray is to positively CONFESS the WILL of Almighty God the Father in FAITH back to our Father in heaven.
So, here again is my understanding of the words of Jesus in Matthew 6:9-13.
Matthew 6:9-13 in my understanding.
“After this MANNER, therefore, you should pray: Our Father who is in heaven, Holy be Your name.
Amen.”
Again, to me, that is the TRUE sound Biblical meaning of Matthew 6:13.
We should actually pray what is commonly called the “Our Father” prayer as a positive “confession of FAITH”, as opposed to a prayer of petition, asking the Father to not lead us into being tempted by Satan, the Devil.
Now, Christadelphian Christians do not believe that Satan, the Devil, is a REAL literal BEING.
And the Christadelphian Christians ALSO wrongly believe, as well as some other church denominations, that God created EVIL, and that Yahweh is the CAUSE of all of the EVIL in the world.
Plus, Christadelphian Christians, as well as other church denominations such as the Roman Catholic Church, sincerely, but wrongly believe in the FALSE doctrine of original sin.
And thus, they build their other man-made doctrines upon the false doctrine of every person being born with a so-called sinful NATURE.
Also, Calvinism wrongly teaches that ALL of the evil in the world was ORDAINED by God.
And thus, some Calvinistic Christians teach that NOTHING happens whether good or EVIL that God did not ORDAIN to happen.
In other words, they wrongly believe that when a father’s daughter is raped and murdered it was God who ORDAINED it to happen.
Now, to me, that is NOT the God of the Bible. If you have not already read the study called Matthew 4:1 Did God LEAD Jesus INTO Temptation?, then I encourage you to also read that study.
Thanks for reading, and may God bless you richly as you continue to seek the TRUTH of the WHOLE word of Almighty God.
And to me, the truth concerning who Jesus TRULY is, according to the Bible ITSELF, is the Biblical Unitarian view of Jesus.
Once Christians, Jews, Muslims, and even atheists understand the REASON that Yahweh CREATED the Son of MAN, Jesus, was to have DOMINION over the work of Yahweh’s hands.
And after you understand that the REASON that Yahweh did that is to STILL His ENEMIES, Satan and the fallen angels.
Then you can understand that God made His human Son to become “a” Lord, “a” King, and “a” God, under and subject to his God and Father in order to JUDGE Satan and the fallen angels.
