Stuff that comes with stuff , or, Books (and scores) that come with CDs/CD-ROMs
Catalogers will follow the decision made by Acquisitions as to the disposition of these types of materials.
Possible treatments
Preferred option: Catalog the resource as a book (or score) using the appropriate OCLC workform. Separate the CD from the book (or score). Assign an LC call number to the book (or score) and shelve in the circulating stacks. Assign a Media accession number to the CD and shelve in the recording stacks.
This entails the creation of two holdings records in Alma, since the call number and location will be different for each component.
In the holdings record for the CD, give the following note:

In the item record for the CD, set the Material type (as appropriate) to Book or Music Score. Set the Item policy to Monograph. These settings will allow the CD to circulate for the same duration as the book or score.
Catalog the resource as a book (or score). Leave CD with the book (or score). Assign an LC call number and shelve the resource in circulating stacks.
There may be cases where this is appropriate, but it is used sparingly.

May be used in specific cases--for example, the Aebersold play-along sets where the items really are useless unless they are together.
