Stuff that comes with stuff
or
Books (and scores) and that come with CDs/CD-ROMs
Catalogers will folow the decision made by Acquisitions as to the disposition of these types of materials.
Possible treatments:
- Leave CD with the book, catalog as a book, shelve in circulating stacks.
There may be cases where this is appropriate, but it is used sparingly.
- Leave CD with the book, give Media accession number, shelve in recording stacks. Circulates as a book, but has to be checked out at the R&R desk.
May be used in specific cases, for example the Aebersold play-along sets where the items really are useless unless they are together.
- Separate CD from the book, catalog book as a book and shelve in circulating stacks, give CD a circulating Media accession number and shelve in recording stacks; book is labeled with media number for patron reference.
Preferred choice in most cases.
