In 2001, Sibley Library was approached by the staff of what was then known as the Office of Career Planning and Placement, currently part of IML, about cataloging a small collection of career-related materials they kept in a departmental library. It was hoped that this would increase awareness of these materials. These materials were minimally cataloged according to these parameters:
A new location was created called Career Planning and Placement. With migration to Alma, a new "library" was also established for this collection
Materials were delivered to the Head of Cataloging to be cataloged
If the Career Planning Office wished to discard materials that had been cataloged by Sibley, they were to notify us of which titles to delete
Each item had a sticker affixed that said "Cataloging by the Sibley Library"
No barcodes were affixed
If the item duplicated an item already held in Sibley, a new holdings was created for the Career Planning copy
If the item was not already represented in Sibley's catalog, an OCLC record would be imported, but not updated, so that Sibley's holdings would not be attached
If there was no OCLC copy, a brief record was created
No item record was created
