『Miss White Way’s debut day』

今回のテーマ：旅（Journy）について 

競走馬は1000メートルを1分で走る。１分でニューヒーロー・ヒロインが生まれて、15分後には次のレースが始まる。 旅程を終えて家路につくとき、1分1秒ごとに旅先の記憶が飛ぶ様に過去になってゆくことに吃驚する。道に荷物を下ろした時についた土くれがどんどん乾いて落ちてゆく。商店街で食べたご当地焼き鳥の味が口の中で消えてしまう。それはいつもの日々の中でも起こっていることなのだけどこんな風にはっきり突きつけられたりはしない。 夜の道を歩きながらそれでいいじゃないか、と思う。やがて思い出すら指の間からこぼれ落ちるとしても帰ってきた自分は旅に出る前とは、きっと違うだろうから。

This time's theme: On Journeys Racehorses cover a thousand metres in a minute. In a minute, new heroes and heroines are born; fifteen minutes later, the next race begins. When you complete your journey and head home, you're startled by how memories of the destination vanish into the past, second by second. The clods of earth clinging to your luggage when you set it down on the road dry and fall away. The flavour of the local yakitori eaten in the shopping street vanishes from the mouth. This happens in everyday life too, but it's rarely thrust upon you so starkly. Walking the night streets, I think: isn't that alright? Even if the memories themselves will eventually slip through my fingers, the self that has returned will surely be different from the one that set out on the journey.

制作について 2024夏パリ五輪中継で観て以来、馬術競技を見るのが楽しくてならず去年後半から今年は馬の版画ばかりを作っています。最初は馬がウマく描けなくて（洒落です）馬事公苑にスケッチをしに行きました。段々スケッチをするという行為が楽しくなってきて気づいたのは、自分は描くという行為を通じて初めてその対象物を隅々まで見たということ。危ない、危ない、その美しさを知らぬまま人生を終えるところだった。 今回の作品のモデルは今年の夏に函館レースでデビューしたマルガちゃん、マルガはサンスクリット語で道という意味だそう。白毛馬２歳の女の子です。その走る姿勢の伸びやかさは一筋の白い光の様でした。

About the Production

Ever since watching the 2024 Summer Paris Olympics broadcast, I've found equestrian events utterly captivating. Since late last year and throughout this year, I've been creating nothing but horse prints. Initially, I couldn't quite get the hang of drawing horses (pun intended), so I went to the Equestrian Park to sketch. Gradually, the act of sketching itself became enjoyable, and I realised that it was only through the act of drawing that I truly observed my subject in every detail. Goodness me, I nearly ended my life without ever knowing that beauty.

The model for this piece is Maruga-chan, who made her debut at the Hakodate races this summer. Maruga apparently means “way” in Sanskrit. She's a two-year-old white mare. The graceful stretch of her running posture was like a single strand of white light.
