Copperplate engraving (mezzotint) as a human activity. Beautiful shapes made by non-human beings, in this case spiders. I collect some spider webs on a copper plate. Then I trace their shapes. On top of the blackness caused by the countless scratches I put on the copper plate over several hours.
I make a grained copper plate to copy the spider's web and then scrape the shape with a scraper or a burnisher to make it appear. The support for the copperplate is made from Kozo (paper mulberry), which we collect from the mountains, bleach with snow, and hand-finish it with two layers of paper and dry it on a board.
