娘がみかんの白いスジをとって欲しいとみかんを渡してくる。
みかんの白いスジはアルベドという名前があるらしい。
アルベドをていねいに剥がしてあげていると
それがみかんの世界の国境のようだなと思えてきて
わたしたちの世界のさまざまな境界も
こんな簡単に剥がすことができればいいのに。 いや、それはそれで大変かと思い ツルツルになったみかんを娘に手渡す。

My daughter hands me a mandarin orange and asks me to take out the white strings. Apparently, those white strings are called albedo. As I carefully peel away the albedo, I begin to think of it as a border between countries in the world of the mandarin. I wish the various boundaries in our own world could be peeled away this easily. Then again, perhaps that would be difficult in its own way. I return the perfectly smooth mandarin to my daughter.

シルクスクリーンを和紙の両面に印刷する「表裏刷り」で制作しています。
今回はみかんのスジ(アルベド)を表現するため発泡インクを使用しています。

The work is made using a method called “front-and-back printing,” in which silkscreen is printed on both sides of Japanese washi paper. For this work, puff ink is used to represent the white strings, or albedo, of a mandarin orange.
