I usually create works with "boundaries" or "borderlines" as one of my themes. Whether it is between day and night, the transition between seasons, or memory and reality, even when I try to find these boundaries, it is very ambiguous where one side ends and the other begins, and they cannot be clearly distinguished. In this work, I attempted to capture the ambiguous "boundary" itself that exists between two things.
I create my works using the reduction woodcut technique. I gradually build up the image by repeatedly carving the same woodblock and taking impressions, following a path toward completion. For this work, I made more than 50 impressions before reaching the final image.
