TRAIL MAP: Buckalew Trail with Meadow Loop
The Buckalew Trail is a very scenic, easily accessible, relatively short trail that is very popular with residents. In 2012, the Buckalew Trail was the first trail constructed on the new property. It was named for the Buckalew Family who generously donated funds for the construction of the trail; a memorial plaque is located on a boulder near the Fishing Pier. The trail was donated in memory of family members who were tragically killed in an aircraft accident.
The trail originally began at the intersection of Salemtowne Drive and Hagen Court and lead north along the tree line to a new Fishing Pier at Babcock Lake. Construction of The Woodlands apartment buildings shorted the trail. It now begins beside the lower entrance to Woodlands North. As you walk down the trail toward Babcock Lake, a remaining section of the old perimeter fence that once separated Salemtowne from the old Babcock property can be seen along the western side of the trail.
A Trail Information Kiosk is located at the Fishing Pier.
As a part of the Salemtowne Trail System; the Buckalew Trail now continues across the lake dam eastward up a service road to a meadow and then loops around the mowed perimeter of the meadow; this section of the trail is the Meadow Loop. Other trail entrances and crossings are located along the service road and loop sections of the trail.
