Dragon Pool

One of prettiest places in the Trail System

From the middle of the Dam Bridge, if you look north toward the Babcock Lake dam, you will see the lake's overflow discharge pipe. The water from this pipe is a continuation of the University Creek that enters the lake southeastern end of the lake beside the Babcock House rear lawn.

The overflow water flows from the pipe and drops a few feet onto large rocks piled in the Dragon Pool. The pool is so named because of an oriental dragon statue that sits on a rock in the pool and guards the pool. While exploring the woods one day, I found the dragon buried in the dirt and leaves. I dug it up, washed it in the creek, and posted it at the pool to guard it. The pool was named after the dragon.

Other sources of water for the pool

    • From the middle of Dam Bridge, if you look at the pool, you will notice that flows into the pool from the right/west side. This is the Campus Stream.

    • From the middle of Dam Bridge, if you look at the pool, you will notice a small stream that enters the creek just below/south of the pool from the left/east side. This the Deacon Way Stream.

All the water in University Creek flows down the hill a short distance and under the Salemtowne perimeter fence, through the property of Brademere Apartments and northward until it joins Mill Creek.
