Protected Tract

What made the trail system possible

In 2007, the Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation gifted to Salemtowne the Westerly Estate property that was adjacent to Salemtowne. As a part of the Deed of Gift, 25 acres of the woodlands were to be designated as a Protected Tract. Most of the trails in the Salemtowne Trail System are in and around this protected area. The trails lead around standing trees and most fallen trees, so no trees were cut other than gaps in fallen trees. The Salemtowne tax parcel and this protected area can be viewed on the Forsyth County, North Carolina Tax Parcel Viewer using the following link: https://arcg.is/e58Gj
