The Dam Bridge is on the Muir Trail and is located just below the Babcock Lake dam. It is the northernmost of the three large wood bridges and is the lowest point on any of the trails at an elevation of 805 feet. The bridge crosses the lower section of University Creek.
POINT OF INTEREST. On the western side of the bridge is the Dragon Pool Rest Stop.
POINT OF INTEREST. The Dragon Pool
From the middle of the bridge, look upstream toward the south and you see the backside of the dam. The lake’s overflow pipe exits here and water spills down onto rocks in the Dragon Pool.
As you look at the pool, on the left side, you will see a concrete dragon sitting on a rock guarding the pool. While exploring the woods one day, I found the dragon buried in the dirt and leaves. I dug it up, washed it in the creek, and posted it at the pool to guard it. The pool was named after the dragon.
Looking downstream to the south from the bridge, the creek flows about 25 yards, goes under the Salemtowne perimeter fence, and flows north through Brandemere Apartments property until it flows under Bethabara Park Boulevard on its way to Mill Creek.
The bridge is name for its location.
