Please write a standard humanities department essay discussing the documentary on Notre Dame.  I am interested in your thoughts of how and why we preserve historic buildings whether they are Medieval cathedrals or green spaces in small towns.  Why do we work hard to preserve them?  Why are they important to our collective history?  Why aren't there more concerted efforts to save, preserve or recognize historic places, buildings or any structures?  You might also want to contemplate what we lose if we do not make these efforts.

In class writing assignment

This writing assignment should be completed in class and handed in at the end of class.  You should also hand in with this assignment, the work we did in class on Tuesday (the questions and letter you wrote) and the homework that was due today.

Please write a complete description of School One as it is in 2023 and as if you were leaving a document to be found in a time capsule that will be opened in the distant future.  Describe the physical building, highlighting the parts of school you feel are the most important.  Also describe how the people in the building affect the building and its use...how are they leaving their mark on the building (include yourself).  Finally, discuss the things in the building that reflect our unique place and the wonderful people who inhabit the space. How do these specific things reflect the people and atmosphere of the building.    You are writing about your place in School One and its history for posterity, so please be thoughtful and serious...think about what you are contributing to our collective School One history.

Trimester III

Based on class discussion and the documentaries we have watched, create a list of things that represent School One's Material Culture.  These are the things that are most common to School One, things that we all use, or recognize as being "School One."  I then want you to write a couple of paragraphs discussing which of these items should be considered for a time capsule and what people 100 yrs. from now would say about School One if they opened the capsule.   This is Due Tuesday March 28, 2023 for class.

Write an essay on the importance of the yearbooks to our collective memory and history of School One.  What images, words and features are the most meaningful?  What feelings are invoked by the different parts/segments of the yearbooks.  How can we quantify these ideas into part of the final project.  Please add your thoughts and opinions...use Humanities department regulations for the essay.  Please put your name on the essay!  This is due Tuesday April 4, 2023.

Create a photo collage of pictures that represent the history of the world while School One has been in existence on one side.  Add to the other side pictures that you have collected from around School One or have taken from the Facebook pictures we have chosen for Diana.  This project is Due Tuesday April 25, 2023.

Final Essay:  Please write a standard Humanities Dept. essay discussing your take on your experience/experiences of being a School One student.  What impresses you the most?  What is it about School One that you will remember the most?  Are you leaving anything that might be considered a legacy for School One?  What do you want to leave for future School One students?  You have leeway with this essay, so please be honest and make sure you are clear about what you think, so future people will understand what you mean.  Please also tell me at the end of the essay if you will allow me to possibly use it in the 50th Anniversary History. This essay is due Tuesday May 24, 2023.
