CLASS POLICIES
All class materials, assignments, and due dates will be available on Google Classroom. All work will be submitted and assessed through Google Classroom as well.

Please note that all homework must be done in a timely manner. If work is not received at the time indicated, it will be considered late and the Four Strike Policy will apply.
Finally, there's this: Attendance and Timeliness Policy.
Homework One (due 9/12/26): "Show & Tell" Presentation
Bring in an object that has meaning for you. Discuss exactly what it is and what it means to you. Bring in a picture if you cannot physically bring it in (not on your phone – print it out). You may use notes (3x5 cards) but SPARINGLY.
Practice out loud at home. Check the rubric for expectations.
There will be a 2 minute minimum and a 3 minute maximum. You will be cut off at 3 minutes. Points will be taken off for falling under time. Make sure to rehearse OUT LOUD at home with a timer.
Be ready to ask and answer each others’ questions! (So if you are listening, think of questions.)
Homework Two (due 9/22/26) "Ice Breaker" essay
Based on instructions from class, write your "Ice Breaker" essay. Remember:
The essay needs to have a proper Opening, Body and Conclusion. See this Speech Writing handout for reference.
The essay must be between 450 and 750 words in order to be a 3-5 minute speech.
This will be assessed as a formal essay, so all grammar rules apply. Proofread thoroughly.
Write it on a Google Doc and share it with philg@school-one.org.
You will need to print out a copy to bring to class in order to share with a group for feedback. This is a requirement of the assignment and Xs will apply. If you do not have a printer, make sure to let Phil know by the evening of 9/21.

Revisions of "Ice Breaker" essay (based on Peer Feedback).
Proofread thoroughly!
Homework Four (due 9/29/26):
"Ice Breaker" Speech Preparation (index cards and at home, OUT LOUD rehearsal)

Finish prepping "How To" presentation. Make sure you have all the notecards and materials you need. Check Requirements and Parameters on Google Classroom (click here) to ensure the best presentation possible.
If you are using PowerPoint or Google Slides, share them with Phil (philg@school-one.org) BEFORE your presentation.
BRING ANY MATERIALS YOU NEED FOR YOUR DEMONSTRATION TO CLASS. You will be rehearsing in small groups on10/29. Full presentations will start on 10/31!!!
Practice OUT LOUD and with a timer at home. This is essential!
