Class Expectations Addendum: In a world where A.I. has become more and more available and used, I will not accept the use of A.I. generated homework...this includes essays, written questions and art projects. For Tuesday September 16: Please begin formulating a persona of a person who made the journey to the new world like the Pilgrims. Who are you? Why did you go on this voyage? What did you take with you? This Persona is to be used in conjunction with the first project in which you design a homestead and kitchen garden...more details to follow. Please have your persona, with a name and answers to the questions above by Tuesday September 16, 2025.
For Thursday September 25: Please formalize your persona for the colonial homestead project...please add details to what you have written so far to include who makes up your family? Do you have any servants or non-family members in your house? What are these people ages? Their relationship to you? Do they have any special skills, or do you? Try to write as much about the people on your homestead so you can share this with me in class.
For Tuesday September 30: Write out some lists of what you want to have on your homestead...what plants are you going to plant? What animals do you own? Where are you going to keep the animals? How many patches of plants and vegetables will you need...essentially you are planning the layout and contents of your homestead so you will be ready to draw the homestead in class. Westward/Oregon Trail Diary Project
I would like you ti design/write a diary of a woman who is walking the Oregon Trail to the west coast of the United States. You need to produce entries for one week of the trip (7 days/7 entries). These entries should references to where you come from; where you are going; how many people are in your group and who are they; what are the necessities that you have brought with you; talk about one item that is precious to you that you could not leave behind; and share your unique experiences that you have on the trip.
This can take the form of a written diary, a written and illustration diary or a series of illustrated dairy entries with more art than words. If you are not sure about what to do, you should come and see Erin ASAP!!! This will be due on Friday February 10, 2023.

Welcome to Trimester III...let's get started....I will updating this regularly so make sure you are checking this site daily.
Assignment 1: Settlement House research: Please collect a group of photographs of the inner city around the turn if the century (1900-1920). You will need about 10-12 pictures, put them in a google folder, print them out or create a power point with the photographs. You will need these photos for Friday March 17, 2023.
For Monday March 20,2023: Please write up a list of programs that you are going to have at your new Settlement House. The list should be based on your analysis of the neighborhood photos you collected. The questions you should consider is what is your settlement house going to do to help your neighborhood the most.
Settlement House Project: You are going to create a Settlement House based on the information you have collected in the photos. Those photos represent your neighborhood. You have to develop a list of the services provided by the Settlement House and a floor plan drawing of the Settlement House itself that shows where the services are provided. This will be Due Friday March 31, 2023.
For Friday March 24, 2023: Please send or bring into class the following written out on a piece of paper with your name on it. Please write out the following on the paper: 1. Tell me what type of house you are using for your settlement house. 2. Write out the list of programs and services you are providing in the settlement house. 3. Make of list of how you are going to allocate space in your settlement house for the programs and activities you will be doing in your settlement house. Reading: please begin reading the following sections of the chapter New Paths to Power in the No Small Courage book: Pages 385-398 the section is called In Public Life. We will be discussing the reading in class. This should be done by Wednesday March 29, 2021...no fooling!
Essay #1: You are to write a 4-5 paragraph essay discussing the means used by Alice Paul and Lucy Burns to achieve that passage of the amendment that gave women the right to vote. How were they different from the methods that had been used by NAWSA? What was the reaction to these methods by NAWSA? Were you surprised by the lengths that Alice Paul, Lucy Burns and the other members of the National Women's Party were willing to go to get their goals accomplished? Which side of the movement do you think you would have supported if you had been there to participate in the movement?

Final Essay - In a thoughtful and well written essay (4-5 paragraphs), discuss the future of women's rights in America. Include in your discussion the history of the fight for equality we have seen in the RBG and Gloria documentaries, as well as the readings that have been recently assigned. Do women have equal rights today? What can we take from previous activities and use in a current or future movement for equality? What is important to you to be discussed in a current or future women's movement? Please use Humanities department rules for this essay. This assignment is due Friday May 26, 2023.

Fairy Tale presentation and Paper
You must read and analyse your chosen Fairy Tale for the role your
main female character plays in the Fairy Tale. What attributes does
she have...i.e. is she brave, smart, etc.
Then you must find a contemporary version (film) of the Fairy Tale and
also analyse it for how it presents the same character in the story
and how that reflects the time in which the movie was made. Is she the same in both?
How is she the same or different? These two pieces of analysis form the basis of
your written paper (4-5 paragraphs long).
For the presentation in class, you must show the class a scene from the
movie that best demonstrates your analysis...see me if you are having a hard time
figuring this part out - but bring your paper and ideas with you
