World War --Trimester I

Documentary Information:  The Great War and the Shaping of the 20th Century.  The Documentary is available on Youtube.


For Monday September 25, 2023 in class.

Please read pages 11-24 of the Introduction of the WWI Book

The section begins with the heading "Living through the First World War" and ends on the top of page 24 "(Document 50).

Take notes on the reading...What do you think it was like living at this time, how would you have acted as the war got started,  what would your concerns be.  write down your thoughts and especially any questions you have so we can discuss the reading in class.

Read pages 54-64 and take notes (2-3 lines) on how you are reacting/thinking

about the poems and posters..be prepared to discuss on .


For  Wednesday October 4, 2023

Please read the WWI British Poets book. Choose 3 poems and write a paragraph analyzing what you think each poem is about. Please be prepare to share and discuss your favorite poems from the book in class. Do not do the Poem on page 21 Dulce Et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen.   Also please read pages 24-29  which is the remainder of "Living through the First World War"...Stop at the section called The Wars End and Aftermath. 


For Monday October 16, 2023 - Please read the remainder of the Introduction of the WWI Book - Pages 29-35. Also, I would like you to read pages 130-137...the first is an article about opinions in the US about the Treaty of Versailles and the second is about the Treaty of Versailles and important aspects of the Treaty.  Please be prepared to discuss this in class

Read pages 1-10 of Introduction to the Nazi State book. (Stop at the section Life in Nazi Germany)  Please take notes or these pages like you did with the WWI book...also include any questions you might have while you are reading.  Look at the documents mentioned in the reading, especially reading #4, which I would like you to read, and be prepared to discuss them in class.
