Be aware that scholarships sent directly to the college are often deducted from your financial aid award and thus help the college but not you. Some colleges don't do this, but some do. StudentCam is C-SPAN’s annual national video documentary competition that encourages students to think critically about issues that affect our communities and our nation.
In this coming bicentennial year celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, we are asking students in grades 6-12 to create a short (5:00-6:00 minute) video documentary on either a historical or contemporary topic that relates to the competition theme:
America’s 250th Anniversary
Exploring the American Story through the Declaration of Independence
Students are asked to create a 5- to 6-minute documentary that explores the enduring impact of the Declaration of Independence by examining:
(1) its influence on a key moment from America’s 250-year history
or
(2) how the values stated in the foundational document touch on a contemporary issue impacting you or your community.
The submission deadline for all entries is Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
This annual competition is open to all students in grades 6-12. Grades 6-8 compete in the Middle School category, and grades 9-12 compete in the High School category.
For more information about the prize divisions, visit our Prizes page.
Students may compete individually, or in teams of either 2 or 3 members.
Should your documentary win a prize, the awarded dollar amount will be split evenly among the students responsible for the production of the documentary.
Documentaries must include clips of C-SPAN video that relate to the chosen topic.
Consider using short video clips that provide historical background, additional context, or supporting and opposing ideas related to your topic.
My/our topic clearly relates to the 2026 StudentCam theme,

- or -
2. how the values stated in the foundational document touch on a contemporary issue impacting you or your community.
My/our documentary was created by 1-3 people. (A documentary created by more than 3 members will be disqualified. Teachers and adults may provide general guidance but may not actively participate in the production.
My/our documentary contains several clips of C-SPAN video footage with supporting or opposing viewpoints, historical or background context, and/or b-roll footage that relate to my chosen topic.
My/our documentary explores multiple sides of my chosen topic, including those that may oppose my/our points of view.
My/our documentary is free of violent or offensive content (images and language).
My/our documentary is between 5:00 6:00 in length. Eligible documentariesmust be at least 5:00 minutes in length, or must conclude by the 6:00 minute mark. (End credits may begin after the 5:00 mark, and end credits are permitted to run beyond the 6:00 minute documentary time limit)
My/our documentary contains either end credits or a submitted works cited list. (Works cited lists may be uploaded and submitted with your Entry Form, or submitted via email to educate@c-span.org)

My/our documentary features copyright-free music that doesn’t overpower interviews or voiceovers. Make sure to reduce volume of background music when people are speaking - the information being presented is of higher importance than any background music.
My/our documentary features narration. Consider recording yourself speaking on camera but if you are uncomfortable doing that, audio narration can really help tie the various elements of your documentary together. You must write your own scripts to avoid plagiarism, and while you may certainly use sources from your research to inform your narration, you must put that information in your own words.

In today's world, college students do not have it easy. In addition to the skyrocketing costs of college tuition, the amounts students will need to pay for expenses such as housing and transportation have also increased significantly. Many students struggle to cover these costs and ensure that they can receive the proper education and pursue their career goals. Students who attend college in states or regions of the country that are far away from their families will often face additional challenges and increased expenses, and they may be concerned that they will be unprepared to address these concerns.
At Fawell & Fawell, we understand the issues that affect students who travel to other states to attend college, and we have created a scholarship program to provide assistance for these students. Through the Fawell & Fawell Out-of-State Student Scholarship, we award $1,000 each semester to a qualified student who will be pursuing educational opportunities in a location outside of the state where they attended high school or where their parents currently live. Scholarship winners can use this money to pay for tuition, housing, other educational costs, or transportation-related expenses.
To apply for the scholarship, a student must:
Be enrolled in or have been accepted to a college or university that is located in a state where they did not attend high school or a state other than where their parents currently live.
Must be in their freshman, sophomore, or junior year of an undergraduate degree.
Must be pursuing an education related to law.
Have a GPA of 3.5 or higher as of the most recent academic semester they have completed.
Be above the age of 17.
Be a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident.

Joieful Connections believes that children of all abilities should have the opportunity to attend college or other forms of higher education.
Unfortunately, college is often not accessible to students with disabilities. With disabled students making up 14% of public school students, with a total of around 7 million, it’s critical that this group has more support, so they’re able to pursue their dreams of higher education.
This scholarship seeks to support students with a diagnosis of developmental or intellectual disabilities so they can pursue higher education.
Any high school senior who has a diagnosis of developmental or intellectual disability may apply for this scholarship, but students in Oregon will be preferred.
To apply, provide a well-thought-out response to the three questions outlined in the essay prompt.

The theme for the 2026 Science without Borders® Challenge is “Microscopic Marine Life.”
Microscopic marine organisms may be tiny, but they play a crucial role in maintaining the health of our ocean and, by extension, the planet. To apply for this year’s contest, students should submit artwork that highlights the positive impact of microscopic marine organisms. Artwork should show how these organisms contribute to ocean ecosystems, support marine life, or impact the health of the planet.
Microscopic Marine Life
The theme for the 2026 Science Without Borders® Challenge is “Microscopic Marine Life.” This year, we invite you to create artwork that showcases the incredible world of microscopic marine organisms—tiny life forms that play a vital role in maintaining the health of our ocean and planet. Although invisible to the naked eye, these creatures are essential to ocean ecosystems, the global climate, and even the air we breathe!
To enter the contest, submit artwork that features the positive impact of microscopic marine life, such as phytoplankton, zooplankton, bacteria, protists, and other microscopic ocean organisms. Through your art, you’ll reveal the beauty, diversity, and importance of life at the smallest scale.
Microscopic marine organisms are tiny creatures that inhabit the ocean, many of which can only be observed with a microscope. Despite their size, they perform essential roles in ecosystems. These microscopic organisms come in many forms and can be grouped by their role in the food web:
1. There is no fee to enter the contest.
2. All entries must be received by March 2, 2026, at 11:59 pm Eastern Time (ET). All submissions must be received by this date or they will be disqualified. No extensions will be granted.
3. Submissions must be made online. Email submissions are not permitted.
4. All students ages 11-19 who are enrolled in primary or secondary school, or the home school equivalent anywhere in the world may enter the Science Without Borders® Challenge. Proof of age, identity, and/or eligibility may be required.
5. All artwork must be an original work by the contestant and shall not infringe on any copyrights or any other rights of any third parties. Do not copy an idea from a past participants’ work. Do not draw a character from a cartoon or movie. See the tips for success and grading rubric for more information on what the judges are (and are not) looking for.
6. Do not submit artwork to the Science Without Borders® Challenge that you have entered into another art competition or a previous Science Without Borders® Challenge.
7. The artwork must be 2D such as a painting or drawing. Acceptable media includes paint, pencil, marker, crayon, ink, felt, and oil pastel. Using magazines, newspapers, or other non-original work is also not permitted. Digitally created artwork, including photographs, are not accepted.

11. All eligible contest participants will receive a digital certificate. Make sure your description clearly explains how your artwork aligns with the theme. If the judges cannot see from your artwork and description that it follows the theme, your entry will be disqualified, and you will not receive a certificate.

13. All participants are required to have a teacher sponsor their artwork. This can be any teacher, from school or an after-school program. Students must provide the teacher’s name, current phone number, and email address on their submission form. Please notify your teacher in advance and get their approval, as we will be contacting them. Teacher sponsors are needed to confirm students’ ages and grades at registered schools to ensure they meet eligibility criteria.
