Waitaki

Glenavy

Loop thru forest and follow tracks down to river, with plenty of creek crossings and some quiet parts in the swift Waitaki River, when river levels are normal. It is a 4WD track, and has other users, such as fishermen. This is the Canterbury Side of the Waitaki River. along SH1 (Waimate Hwy).

Waitaki River Haul Rd

Visit the Waitaki Horse Trails FB page

Min 5km of trail (one way). Shared with walkers, fishers, dogs, cycles and 4WD. Western end access is blocked by a cattle stop, so you cannot ride this all the way through to Kurow like the walkers and bikes.

Access from either end (parking at both) to ride along this riverside route. This track is on conservation land (and hydro land), and includes a section of the Alps 2 ocean cycleway.

Depending on the water level, you may also have the option of riding the 4WD track in the riverside from Grants Rd.

Parking

There are two parking areas right next to this trail. One is opposite the end of Grants Road, and the other off a track between Special School Rd, and Eastern Rd. Follow the A2o marker from SH83. Both marked on Google Maps.
