Helensville Racecourse

Ride your horse at Helensville Showgrounds

Helensville racecourse had its last race many years ago now, but the infrastructure including the old track are still there, and owned by the Helensville A&P association.

For a fee, you can ride the grounds, including having a blat around the old racetrack if you want. There is both a grass and sand track, or do some schooling in the oval. Don't expect racecourse standards, when it comes to footing of course! But you and your horse can have fun pretending, as you follow the old timber rails around.

To do this, become a keyholder and get access pretty much whenever you want (outside of planned events). There are a couple of different options, with reasonable annual prices + a bond for the key.

  • No stallions are permitted on the grounds (except as part of an approved A&P show)

  • The key also gives you access to the toilet block, and all keyholders are provided with a list of events (when the grounds will not be available) at the start of each year.

  • Access is daybreak to dusk

Entry is via Gate 2 63 Railway st, Helensville
