Horse Riding at Atiu Creek Regional Park

Atiu Creek became a Regional Park on July 1, 2006, having been gifted to Council by by Jackie and Pierre Chatelanat . Horse trails were developed and opened in 2009.

Access

In order to ride at Atiu Creek, you must have a Network Pass, a key for the gates and a combination for the parking padlock. This park is now open all year around. If there is significant weather events closure will be emailed to you via your registration details

Trails and Terrain

Horse Trails include open farmland, bush trails and shared cycle\walking tracks. The trails on this farm are the most extensive available in the ARC Parks network. The large loops allow for hours (2-4 depending on options taken) of riding.

This park is on 845 hectares of rolling hills and there is a wide variety of terrain from flat to steep. There is also a wide variety of surrounds, from sheep paddocks, to pine forest, to lush native bush and lovely poplar glades.

Atiu Creek Regional Park

Parking

Horse float and Truck parking is separate from the main carpark and entrance. Continue on Run Road for approx 1.5km past the main park entrance. There is a gravel pad for horse trucks and floats to park on.

Groups, Clubs and Events - 20+ riders

Rangers are keen to see this park used, so don't be afraid to book this park for your horse event - Waitemata Hunt held a great trek there in 2012

If you have a club that wishes to take a ride at the Park. You must apply to do so by phoning the local ranger office 09-426-1200. Depending on the size of the group (over 20 is considered a large group), it may take a month to organise, so please apply well ahead of time.

Accommodation

You can stay in this park with your horse(s) either in a bach or in the campsite.
