Queen Elizabeth Park has easy trails over farmland and ready access to the beach.
Maps are available outside the Rangers Office in the north park. A marked horse track is provided for the length of the park inland from the sand hills and the beach, at other than high tide, is also rideable. Ride a nice 15km loop of farm and beach.
QE Park rides link via Campbells Mill Rd to Whareroa Farm.

Onto bridle trails through northern part of park
Raumati gates, and via Kapiti pony club (by permission or membership only) - near Jeep Rd entrance to Paraparaumu Beach
There are 2 parking areas (aside from street parking).
Paekakariki town entrance where you would turn west at the main street in town (Beach Road)and make the next right on Wellington Road going north to the south end of the park. Parking is available along the road verges.
Directly off SH 1 at Mackays Crossing (Whareroa Rd). Park along the wide berm on the left, just past the Rangers office and toilet block. see below
Shared Trails:
Shared with dog walkers, bikes and other park users.
The track is packed or soft sand most of the way with some small rocky patches.
Trams may be running on an east-west track in the middle of the park, especially in the weekends, and courtesy must be shown to other users such as cyclists and family groups walking, picnicking etc.
During the week, the tracks are usually quiet and provide pleasant hacking. Lovely views out to Kapiti or East to Campbells Mill Rd, Whareroa Farm etc.

Day rides at QEII Park only
If you wish to ride only in QE Park you can get a key from the Rangers’ Office for the day you are there. The Office is just inside the Main Gate. Your contact details will be taken, and if you don’t return the key before you go home, you will be charged the deposit.
Kapiti District Council. The key for the gates on the horse track in the northern end of Queen Elizabeth Park. These keys also open gates in Whareroa.
$30 Key Bond - You can keep the key as long as you wish and the $30 will be refunded when you return the key.

Mackays Crossing, SH 1
Begin your ride at MacKays Crossing and follow the designated trails, giving way to walkers. The Mackays Crossing entrance off SH1 also gives access to Whareroa Beach and surrounding dunes, picnic areas, walking, cycling and horse riding trails,
Distance: 4 km one way
Grade: easy
Time: 1 hour each way
A route loops south around the perimeter of the equestrian area and returns to the sealed road. From Mackays Crossing, follow the track beside the road and turn left a short way along the track through the gate into the farm paddocks. Ride across the paddock past the water tanks and follow the trail to the sealed road. Return through the equestrian area or beside the sealed road.

Time: 1 hour
From the equestrian area at MacKays Crossingfollow the track beside the sealed road to the beach. Turn right across the tram lines before the beach picnic areas. Head north to Whareroa Stream and follow this loop track. Return the same way.
