September 29 - October 3
Hello Parents and Students,
Happy October! We have a 4 day school week this week. There is no school on Thursday, October 2nd. We will return to school Friday, October 3rd.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Conferences: Trimester 1 conferences are just around the corner. Conferences will be held October 13th-16th. Please click the blue button at the top of the screen to sign up for a conference.
Garden Club: Garden Club kicks off this Wednesday, October 1st! This Wednesday Garden Club will have a Meet and Greet for all interested students. Garden Club takes place during lunch time in the Makerspace.
Community Council: Last Call for those interested in participating in 3rd Grade Community Council. Please fill out this form by Wednesday, October 1st to secure a t-shirt- Community Council Form.
This year, 3rd graders involved in Community Council will help create our School Spirit days and themes, make posters for spirit days, and help with our district-wide canned food drive, Stuff-a-Bus. Students would participate in Community Council during school hours. They would not miss class time to be involved. Meetings will take place once a month during the students' lunch time.
Benchmark Tests: Your child will be coming home with their second graded Benchmark test this week. This was their second time answering these types of test questions independently. This is just a reminder that they are still learning how to take these tests, and they are difficult. It is okay if your child is not earning a 3 right away, we will continue practicing and having a growth mindset!
OUR WEEK AT A GLANCE
Math: This week, we will continue with lessons 17-20. Students will continue to work with equal groups, multiplication, and division. Students will use arrays and tape diagrams to represent problems. Students will explore the relationship between multiplication and division through the Read, Draw, Write process. On Friday of this week, 3rd grade will continue taking a timed multiplication test. Students who passed last week's test will continue on to the next test (2s). Students who did not pass last week's test will retake it this week.
Reader's Workshop: We will be starting our Benchmark Unit 2 books, called Ways Characters Shape Stories. Our focus will be answering the essential question: How do our actions influence our lives?
Writer's Workshop: This week students will write a narrative about a food they like to enjoy during the fall season. They will focus on descriptive language and the use of adjectives to add spice to their writing.
Social Studies: This week, students will continue with Week 30 in our Studies Weekly curriculum. This week we will learn about American Government.
Science: Students observe the traits of even more closely related organisms: four species of bears. Students analyze data about the traits of a particular bear, comparing the bear's traits with the traits of other bears.
P.E.: Please dress appropriately on Monday and Friday for P.E/dance class every week.
