Week 10

October 23-27

Hello Parents and Students,

PTA

Red Ribbon Week: Students will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week! Please see the spirit days above.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Picture Day: Picture day is this Friday, October 27th. Don't forget to wear your picture day best!

Comprehension Test: Students will be coming home with a graded Benchmark test. This test was guided, meaning I read the story and each question aloud to students. This is an example of what a 3rd grade comprehension test might look like for your review. I do not need this test returned, it is for you to keep.

OUR WEEK AT A GLANCE

Math: In class we will review a study guide on Monday and an assessment will be given to students on Tuesday. Your child will come home on Wednesday night with a completed study guide. Please assist them with reviewing the problems, studying is their homework. This may look something like asking problems verbally, writing similar problems down on a new paper, or covering up the answers and redoing the problem. The assessment given will be very similar to the study guide.

Reader's Workshop: We will be starting our Benchmark Unit 2 books, called  Ways Characters Shape Stories. Our focus will be answering the essential question: How do our actions influence our lives?

Students will continue participating in our Reader's Workshop centers. This week we will be focusing on finding the main idea and key details of a grade level text.

We will continue reading our class chapter book, Frindle

Writer's Workshop: This week students will finish writing their first narrative about a haunted house. They will focus on descriptive language and the use of adjectives to add spice to their writing. They will also review how to write a 5 sentence paragraph. Students will have a writing assessment at the end of the week on a fluent 5 sentence paragraph using 3rd grade conventions and spelling.

Social Studies: This week, students will continue with Week 9 in our Studies Weekly curriculum.  Week 9 teaches students about natural features and landforms in California

Science: We will continue working in our first unit of study for Science, which is Balancing Forces. We will begin exploring some October themed investigations through Mystery Science.

P.E.: Please dress appropriately on Monday and Thursday for P.E every week.
