Week 2

August 28- September 1

Hello Parents and Students,

Parent Survey: If you have not done so yet, please take this short survey to help me get to know your child better.

Supplies: If your child brought supplies for themselves, like a personal pencil box, they will be asked to put them back in their backpacks at the end of each day. Any other supplies such as notebooks, drawing pads, sticky notes, etc must stay at home. We have very small desks and having extra supplies make it hard to stay organized and become a distraction

Weekly Folder: A parent/guardian signature is required weekly. Students will return the folder the next school day, unless absent.

Communicator: Each day, please read the communicator together with your child, check off completed assignments, then sign the communicator.

Back-to-School Night: Wednesday, September 6th will be our Back-to-School Night beginning at 6:00. We have an early dismissal at 1:25. This evening will have very important information. I will be explaining the curriculum in depth, my procedures and expectations, the importance of reading at home, and how parents can help their children at home. Please save the date for this very important evening.

Computers: Students will begin working with their Chromebooks this week. I will provide one pair of headphones for each child. If your child would prefer, they may bring their own small headphones to keep in the classroom.

Fun Friday!: We will review the Fun Friday requirements at BTSN next week. Students will learn the expectations to earn Fun Friday this week.

Our Week at a Glance

Math: This week, students will begin working in their Learn and Apply books. Students must travel with their Apply book to and from school each day. Books must stay in good working condition. This week, students will connect their understanding of equal groups and repeated addition to multiplication. They will identify the number of groups, the number in each group, and the total within equal-groups models and arrays. They will write multiplication equations to represent the equal groups and arrays. Students will also interpret the meaning of the factors as the number of groups and the number in each group and solve word problems.

Reader's Workshop: This week we will begin our book study of The 100 Dresses. A beautiful story that addresses individual differences and the power of kindness.

Writer's Workshop: The class will be writing their families a letter to read on Back-to-School Night. We will also being our rough drafts of "Excited for Third Grade".

Science: This week students will be introduced to our supplementary Mystery Science curriculum.

Social Studies: This week, students will begin Week 1: Continuity and Change in our Studies Weekly curriculum. This week we will learn about the inquiry process and how we use it to study history.

P.E.: Please dress appropriately on Monday and Thursday for P.E every week.
