Hello Parents and Students,

Welcome Back!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

RESPONSIBILITY: We are working very hard on being responsible in class. This means, putting effort and care into our work and not rushing through assignments. If work is turned in that has careless mistakes or has clearly been rushed through, it will need to be re-done. Responsibility, following directions carefully and striving for our personal best are part of our 3rd grade expectations.

Inclusive Schools Week: Please see the flyer above for our upcoming Inclusive Schools Week spirit days.

Math Test Corrections: Your child will come home on Monday with their most recent math test (If they were absent the Friday before Fall Break, they will make up the test in class). OUR WEEK AT A GLANCE

Math: This week, students will begin working in their Module 3 books. Throughout this module, students will apply multiplication and division concepts, representations, and strategies from module 1. They use the commutative, distributive, and associative properties to help them multiply and divide. Students advance their representations to more abstract arrays and tape diagrams and begin to use a letter to represent an unknown quantity.

Reader's Workshop: Students will be taking district reading assessments on Fastbridge this week. They will also take a practice test on their chromebooks so they can get used to the format of the CAASPP test, which we will take as a grade level in the Spring. Students will start being assessed this week to see how they have grown in the area of reading fluency and comprehension since the beginning of the school year.

Writer's Workshop: This week we focus on the importance of adding details to our writing. We will begin writing a winter narrative that will eventually become a typed Final Draft. We will also be writing a book review for our Fall Reading Tournament winner: Creepy Crayon!

Science: We will continue learning about forces. We will also continue supplementing Amplify Science with Mystery Science on Friday.

Social Studies: We will continue with Week 14 and 15 in our Studies Weekly curriculum. Lesson 14 will wrap up our first unit of study about the inquiry process. Lesson 15 will teach students about the Chumash People of the pacific coast region.

P.E.: Please dress appropriately on Monday and Thursday for P.E every week.

Music: We will continue with music lessons this week! Lessons will be on Tuesday and Friday.
