August 31-September 4
Hello Grown-Ups and Students,
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Back To School Night: Wednesday, September 2nd will be our Back-to-School Night. It will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the quad. Please save the date for this very important evening. Please note, session 2 is only for families with multiple children.
OUR WEEK AT A GLANCE
Math: This week we will continue with lessons 6-9 in our Module 1 books. They will continue working with equal groups and arrays as they relate to multiplication and division. In topic B, students develop a conceptual understanding of division, following a sequence similar to topic A's development of multiplication. Throughout the topic, two interpretations of division are presented in tandem. Sometimes the number of groups is known (partitive division), and sometimes the number in each group is known (measurement division). Students do not use the terminology of partitive and measurement division, but they do identify what is known and unknown in each situation.
Reader's Workshop: Students will begin working on reading skills such as finding the main idea of a text, putting story events in order, comparing and contrasting and answering questions with text evidence. They will also take a beginning of the year screening assessment on IXL to help us understand their current levels.
Writer's Workshop: This week, students will be writing a personal narrative about their summer break! Students are working on neat printing and coloring, correct spelling and conventions.
Studies Weekly: Students will continue with week 6: The Themes of Geography of our social studies curriculum. They will be answering the guiding question: How have people organized the study of the Earth?
Science: Through reading an informational text, students continue to explore how organisms can be similar and different. Students read the book Blue Whales and Buttercups, which provides many examples of the great diversity of organisms on Earth and the many ways in which they can be similar and different.
