October 27 - 31
Hello Parents and Students,
Due to an unforeseen emergency, I was out with a substitute last Friday, October 24th. Because of this, some graded tests and classwork may come home throughout the week, rather than all at once in your student's blue weekly folder. I apologize and appreciate your understanding and patience!
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Halloween Parade: We will be having a school-wide Halloween Parade on Friday at 10:45 Below are some guidelines from Mrs. Bakoo to keep in mind when selecting a costume:
We ask that children arrive in costume, if they plan to dress up
Please be sure that your child is able to maneuver in their costume independently, especially if they need to use the restroom, remove a piece, etc.
Costumes should be reflective of positive themes
Costumes should be comfortable, safe and not restrict movement or vision
Please be sure that the costume does not include any look-alike weapons, such as swords, spikes, knives or guns
Masks will be allowed during the Halloween celebration time, but cannot be worn anywhere else on campus to ensure student safety
We ask that students not wear blow-up costumes, as they can be very difficult to safely move around in
OUR WEEK AT A GLANCE
Math: Students will continue with lessons 8-11 in their Learn books. Students will be reading temperatures and practicing rounding to the nearest ten or hundred. Students will use vertical number lines to solve problems involving rounding.
Reader's Workshop: We will be continuing with Week 2 in our benchmark book called Animal Adaptations. We will also be working on a universal screener on IXL to help understand your child's updated reading levels for trimester 1.
Writer's Workshop: This week students will finish their Spooky House narratives. They will also be designing a pop-up house to match their narrative!
Social Studies: This week, students will continue with Week 33 in our Studies Weekly curriculum. Week 33 teaches students about tribal and state governments.
Science: Students will relate the concept of animal adaptations and camouflage from Benchmark to a project in our classroom. Students will "camouflage" a paper octopus in the classroom!
P.E.: Please dress appropriately on Monday for P.E. class this week.
