Week 11

I am excited to announce that this year, grades 2-4 are participating in the Ron Clark House System at Tierra Linda! This is a fun and engaging way for students to build community and practice skills such as sportsmanship, responsibility, leadership and teamwork. Students in grades 2 and 3 will be randomly sorted into four houses. Our 4th graders are excited to welcome new members to their house!

Once students are sorted, they will receive a house shirt to wear on spirit days. Please fill out this short form by November 3rd so your student receives the correct shirt size. These shirts are meant to last a couple years, so we recommend sizing up. Thank you!

October 30 - November 3

Hello Parents and Students,

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Conferences: This week, parents have the opportunity to meet with their child's teacher either on Zoom or in-person for a conference. The sign-up link was sent out during Week 9 both in the newsletter and via email. Please look out for a conference schedule reminder from me as well as a Zoom link if you are meeting with me virtually. I look forward to meeting with you! Dismissal is at noon all week.

Halloween Parade: We will be having a school-wide Halloween Parade at 8:30. Below are some guidelines from Mrs. Bakoo to keep in mind when selecting a costume:

OUR WEEK AT A GLANCE

Math: This week, we will continue working in Module 2, which focuses on measurement. Students will be reading temperatures and practicing rounding to the nearest ten or hundred. Parents will receive student's most recent test score during their conference. There will be no test corrections due to the short week.  Please review your child's test with them after you receive it during your conference.

Reader's Workshop: Students will continue to participate in Reader's Workshop! This involves students rotating through reading stations that best fit their individual needs. These stations include small groups with the teacher, reading to self, responding to reading, writing, word work and technology. Our focus this week will be on comparing and contrasting information in two texts. We will continue reading our class chapter book, Frindle

Writer's Workshop: This week students will begin an acrostic poem about Fall and November. They will focus on descriptive language and the use of adjectives to add spice to their writing.
