OUR WEEK AT A GLANCE
Math: On Thursday, students will have their first math test. This test will cover lessons 2-14. I will review these lessons in class on Wednesday. Your child will come home on Wednesday night with a completed study guide. Please assist them with reviewing the problems, studying is their homework. This may look something like asking problems verbally, writing similar problems down on a new paper, or covering up the answers and redoing the problem. The assessment given will be very similar to the study guide.
Reader's Workshop: We will continue our Benchmark curriculum Unit 1: Government for the People. Our focus will be answering the essential question: Why do people participate in government? We will continue learning to annotate text and focus on skills such as finding the main idea, answering text-dependent questions, sequencing, and comparing/contrasting story elements.
At the end of the week, students will take the Benchmark assessment. We will be reading the passage, questions, and answer choices together.
Spelling : Long a
Grammar : Regular Verbs and Verb tenses
Writer's Workshop: Students will also learn how to write a well-constructed, 5-sentence paragraph. Students will be writing complete sentences using correct capitalization, spelling and punctuation. They will learn how to write a topic sentence, supporting details and a concluding sentence.
Science: Through reading an informational text, students continue to explore how organisms can be similar and different. Students read the book Blue Whales and Buttercups, which provides many examples of the great diversity of organisms on Earth and the many ways in which they can be similar and different.
Social Studies: This week, students will continue with Week 7 in our Studies Weekly curriculum. This week, students will answer how do geographical tools help us learn about our world?
P.E.: Please dress appropriately on Monday and Friday for P.E./Dance class every week.
