Week 1

August 23-25

Hello B6 Families!

This first initial newsletter is a little longer than usual, thank you for taking the time to read it!

WELCOME BACK! I am very excited for the year ahead. As my married last name is hyphenated, you may see my maiden name (Knudsen) on my email and the school website. Your kiddos will refer to me as Mrs. Palmer :)

This year will provide new challenges and opportunities for growth in knowledge, responsibility, and experience. Your child's success in third grade is my main goal and this can be achieved by all of us (students, parents, teachers) working together and supporting each other while keeping communication open. All these variables blended together will help make this a successful year for your child.

Parent Survey: Please take this short survey to help me get to know your child better!

Here is a link Mrs. Bakoo would like parents/guardians to fill out. Thank you!

Weekly Newsletter: At the start of each school week, please read my newsletter (found on my website.) In my newsletter I will have information about what students will be learning in class, upcoming projects, due dates for assignments, tests, etc. Also, it will have reminders and school announcements.

Please make it a priority to read the newsletter with your child. It will give you a snapshot of what is happening in the classroom.

Weekly Folder: Your student will come home every Monday (or first instructional day of the week) with a BLUE WEEKLY FOLDER. This folder will include dated pages which includes information for any missing assignments or any behavior problems from the previous week. A parent/grown-up signature is then required. Students will return the folder the next school day, unless absent. Blue folders are coming home today. I look forward to seeing all signed Blue Weekly Folders returned TOMORROW: THURSDAY, August 24th.

Communicator: Your child will be coming home today with a Communicator. The Communicator is where your child will write down their homework assignments, tests, due dates, and reminders. It is the students' responsibility to copy exactly what I have written - no edited versions. Students need to write NEAT in order for parents to clearly read and understand assignments. Each day, please read together with your child the communicator, check off assignments completed, then sign the communicator. Students will show me their signed Communicator each day, this is my way of communicating with parents on a daily basis. At times, if needed, I may write a quick note in your child's communicator.

Communication: If you have any concerns, questions, or need to set up an appointment, please email me. My email address is mknudsen@pleasantvalleySD.org also there is a link on my website homepage. I do check my emails daily, if you do not get a response within a day, please email me again or put a note in your child's communicator that an email was sent, sometimes it may go directly to SPAM.

Back-to-School Night: September 6th will be our Back-to-School-Night, more information to come. This evening will have very important information. I will be explaining in depth the curriculum, my procedures and expectations, the importance of reading at home and how parents can help their child at home. Please save the date for this very important evening.

Homework and Reminders:

Let's have an AMAZING year!

Mrs. Palmer
