Activity: National Strategy Research

As a group, research and discuss your assigned area. You have 50 minutes to complete your research. During your research and discussion, answer the following questions associated with your group and be prepared to present your responses to the other groups:

Group 1
• What is the purpose of the National Security Strategy?
• What is the National Defense Strategy?
• What is the National Military Strategy?
• What is the relationship between the National Security Strategy, National Defense Strategy, and the National Military Strategy?

Group 2
• What are the instruments of national power? Provide an explanation of each.
• How are they used to achieve national goals and objectives?

Group 3
• What are the levels of war?
• What is their relationship?
• Summarize the competition continuum and its three states of relations: armed conflict, completion below armed conflict, and competition?
• Explain the complexities of operations below the threshold of armed conflict as manifested by constant competition in the Information Environment?

Your presentation should be no more than 5 minutes.
