PROBLEM SOLVING PRESENTATION
For this assignment, you will work in groups to analyze a problem and develop solutions/COAs for possible implementation. The assignment consists of two parts and the product will be a group prepared briefing intended for a command staff. Each group member is required to present a portion of the briefing and the total score will be applied individually to each member.
Part 1 – The Problem-Solving Process
As a group, you will complete the following tasks in preparation for the briefing:
1) Brainstorm various “complicated” and “complex” problems experienced in your organizations.
2) Select and complete one of the following options:
a. Select one of the problems discussed that the group finds to be the most relatable/prevalent or,
b. Synthesize/incorporate the discussions and experiences into one commonly understood problem.
3) Identify at least three (3) different frames of your stated problem and select one to complete the problem-solving process.
4) Summarize the work and discussions from step 2 and 3 into a single “problem statement.”
5) Complete a Root Cause Analysis of the problem statement.
6) Develop a minimum of 3 solutions (COAs) for possible implementation to correct/resolve the problem.
7) Utilize the decision analysis matrix to evaluate the COAs and select one for possible implementation.
Part 2 – The Briefing
As a group, deliver a prepared briefing that meets the following requirements:
1) Original Problem: Explain the groups original problem, which option “a” or “b” from part 1, step 2 was selected, and what type of problem is being solved.
2) Problem Framing & Statement: Identify at least three (3) different frames of your stated problem and which frame was selected. Explain the groups problem statement based on the selected frame.
3) Root Cause Analysis: Explain the groups root cause analysis.
4) Generated Solutions (COAs): Provide a summary of the three (3) generated solutions (COAs).
5) Decision Analysis: Present the decision analysis matrix that shows how your group evaluated solutions and explain which solution was selected.
6) COA Implementation: Explain how the selected COA would be implemented.
7) Collaboration: Explain how the group collaborated and the impact (good or bad) it had on the problem-solving process.
8) Delivery Mechanics: The presentation must meet the following requirements:
a. The presentation must contain a purpose, outline of main points, and summary/conclusion.
b. The presentation must flow logically through main points/topics to conclusion.
c. Your presentation must be 10 to 15 minutes in length.
9) Participation:
a. Each member of the group must deliver an equal portion of the presentation.
b. During the presentation you must demonstrate professionalism and use appropriate language (i.e., limited use of acronyms and jargon).
10) Visual Aid: You must develop a visual aid to assist in conveying your message and enhances your presentation.
