VIVIANE :
I can take you as far as the border between Cornwall and Logres in about two days.
From there, all you'll have to do is head for Camelot.
KAY :
Great. I’ll go and make the necessary preparations as soon as possible.
VIVIANE :
For those who are to set out on this quest, however…
I must tell you about the Grail.
GAWAIN :
What a surprise, Dinadan dear.
I didn’t think you would go after the Grail.
DINADAN :
What can you do, I’m curious. [wink]
This whole thing’s a complete mystery. Plus, I have to get all the details for Tristan too.
We finally managed to get him into bed and stay in there, gotta make the best of it.
TRISTAN :
Okay, I’ll rest up, but I’m fine, it’s true, you know it.
PALAMEDES :
He should be the one making the best of what he got,
and consider himself lucky to be able to leave his bed at all, unlike Lamorak.
DINADAN :
...Pal, listen⎯
VIVIANE :
As we were saying…
…the Grail.
As far as we're aware, this is its most common form.
GAWAIN :
So it can shapeshift?
VIVIANE :
Possibly.
GAWAIN :
Possibly?
VIVIANE :
Unfortunately, I do not have all the answers you seek, but
I’ve known the line of Corbenic for a long time.
I had the opportunity to assist Pellam, as well as his predecessor.
The Grail is very ancient.
It isn't a thing of this world, not exactly.
It belongs to Avalon.
PERCIVAL :
Avalon?
PALAMEDES :
That’s what the fay call the Otherworld.
VIVIANE :
I know not how it came to be here,
nor how humans first made it their own.
And yet, its influence is so great that the effects of its magic are felt all over Britain.
GAWAIN :
How so?
VIVIANE :
The lands, the people…
All that once received the Grail’s blessing have been affected by its magic.
It is likely you all have been too.
The Grail belongs to the very heart of Britain.
[ everyone is perplexed ]
However, magic always has a price for you humans.
The line of Corbenic has channeled its toll into one guardian at a time, generation after generation.
But the bond between the Grail and Pellam, having already grown weaker with each passing year,
was broken.
PERCIVAL :
...
DINADAN :
So the Grail is wandering…
…and drawing energy from just about anyone?
VIVIANE :
Not exactly.
I have no proof of it, but I think
the Grail is wandering in search of a new guardian.
DINADAN :
So it’s looking for one among the dead?
That doesn’t make any sense, does it?
VIVIANE :
Indeed. That is why I think…
…that the departed souls the Grail revives are meant to protect it while it continues its “search”.
They were all touched by the Grail’s blessing when they were alive, one way or another.
PALAMEDES :
If the whole island is under the Grail’s influence, should it not have more protectors?
There’s more than enough dead folks to go around. It has plenty to choose from.
VIVIANE :
This, I do not know.
I cannot claim to know everything about the Grail’s workings.
Any deduction would be interesting, but they certainly aren’t our priority.
We must find it,
and I have something of an idea as to the how.
You see, the Grail isn’t the only item from Avalon to have found its way into your little human hands.
There are a few artifacts that are, shall we say, bound to the Grail through their origins and their very nature.
Studying their magic and using it could lead us to the Grail.
PERCIVAL :
Lead us to the Grail…?
MORDRED :
If we follow the light, we’ll find the shield.
PERCIVAL :
…by crafting a hound!
VIVIANE :
Precisely.
MORGAN :
After them!
Don't let them hurt the queen!
BRUNOR :
What⎯
MORGAN :
Out of the way!
Very well, let’s keep going!
AGLOVALE :
Morgan, what about the mage⎯
MORGAN :
I have to reach the workshop first before I can deal with her!
And her magic is too weak for her to work any spell between these walls!
You two, focus on taking down those suits of armors and getting to Guinevere!
AGLOVALE :
The suits…they’re…they’re…
…empty…
[ aglovale is taken by a violent fit of coughing. in this state, he's unaware of one of the enchanted armors sneaking up on him. ]
BRUNOR :
Aglovale?
MORGAN :
NO!
AGLOVALE :
Dame... Morgan…?
MORGAN :
…Add this to the list of all the things the Round Table owes me, king of Listenoise.
BRUNOR :
Can you walk?
AGLOVALE :
One… one moment…
MORGAN :
Hurry.
Others could still be lurking, we have to move on.
AGLOVALE :
Wh-wh-wh-what?
C-come on, put me down!
MORGAN :
Guinevere, Mordred!
MORDRED :
Mother!
GUINEVERE :
Morgan!
MORGAN :
Guinevere, you’re safe.
GUINEVERE :
Yes, thanks to Mordred.
But what happened⎯
What is this?
MORGAN :
A simple spell to keep us here.
I’ll take care of it.
…Damn it.
It’s not the same magic as before.
She tricked me.
We’ll stay locked in here until⎯
…No…
There’s another spell.
GUINEVERE :
Another spell?
MORGAN :
She cast another spell, hidden behind the one that locked us here. I must decipher it quickly,
for I fear she had a good reason to trap us here.
ROUND TABLE TRIVIA
The workshop Morgan is talking about was originally Merlin’s.
MERLIN :
Of course, I share it with Morgan now. ( And Viviane, sometimes. )
I have a cabin not too far from Camelot, a workshop in the castle, and a cave in…
Hm, right now it should be in Cornwall.
