GALAHAD :
[ sighs. ]
I do wonder why you keep insisting we travel together,
if you meant to say so little along the way.
LANCELOT :
To speak without purpose is to keep the mind from wandering.
Viviane used to say so, long ago.
On second thought, though, maybe she was only trying to get some peace and quiet.
She had three rambunctious children to deal with, after all.
GALAHAD :
Alright, that’s enough.
You’ve had your fun with me these past six months, haven’t you?
“Oooh, I’m going to offer to train with Galahad, only to follow her around, mute as a fish!”
LANCELOT :
Have we not been questing?
GALAHAD :
Well, yes, but…
Damn it, what is it that you want?
Did Bors ask you to keep an eye on me? If that’s so, you can go back and tell him he can come and see me himself!
LANCELOT :
Bors asked nothing of me.
He’s still in Joyous Guard, enjoying some well-deserved rest.
To tell the truth…
…it was Dame Guinevere that encouraged me to try and spend more time with you.
GALAHAD :
No wonder. If Dame Guinevere asked you to jump off a bridge…
LANCELOT :
Do not assume I am only here at her behest.
I…
I’ve had time to think, and I have come to the realization
that I’ve treated you unfairly.
I would like to accompany you, and support you in your travels.
GALAHAD :
…So you’d be willing to train me?
When I’m part of the Round Table, and you left it?
LANCELOT :
…
I grow weary, Galahad.
I was devoted to Arthur, I am devoted to Guinevere…
…but I’ve never had any strong bond to the Round Table.
I cared for some of its members, certainly.
But
I was not made to carry these great ideals.
GALAHAD :
…If there are even such ideals to promote anymore.
I’m just thinking about what Mordred said.
LANCELOT :
…
Do you agree with what he said?
GALAHAD :
All he did was state the facts as they were, no?
LANCELOT :
Biased facts.
To claim, in front of a crowd, that the Round Table is weakened but could be improved with new blood
is but a step away from confessing a desire to take it from its founder.
GALAHAD :
Maybe he’s right.
Since I became a knight, more and more kingdoms have fallen into ruin.
We keep on searching for the Grail as if it were the root of all evil
but I cannot help but notice how Arthur, and the Round Table with him, are dealing with the consequences.
Far too many are suffering, Sir Lancelot.
From corruption, from violence.
I cannot simply endure it, coming from my king.
[ she’s interrupted by a scream. ]
GALAHAD :
Did it come from over there…?
[ cut to breuse at full throttle!! ]
BREUSE :
Pretty little thing, so it is.
You want it back? Come and get it.
DINADAN :
Seriously, don’t you have better things to do? Like throwing yourself off a ford?
BREUSE :
I’m not talking to you, ya tube. I’m talking to the kid.
MORDRED :
Let us make one thing clear, Breuse.
I have a thousand reasons to bring you all the way to Camelot’s dungeons…
…but I’ll settle for getting that bracelet back.
It was a gift from Dame Guinevere. It’s important to me.
BREUSE :
Heh.
If that’s all it takes.
DINADAN :
You don’t have to do this, Mordred.
MORDRED :
Silence.
BREUSE :
You’ve gotten better since last time. Don’t think that’ll be enough, though.
Especially since there’s nothing keeping me from beating your ass anymore.
MORDRED :
What’s that supposed to mean?
BREUSE :
Oh, you never made the connection, did you?
Didn’t you think it odd, that every time we crossed paths,
I never touched a hair on your head?
Oh, poor baby…
…I was on your ma’s payroll the whole time.
She always said you were not to be hurt,
or else I’d not see a bit of gold,
but now that our agreement has come to an end,
I sure won’t hold back!
