[ wailing noises!! ]
ARTHUR :
What’s going on here?
KAY :
Look,
that’s how much of a disaster Flor is in the kitchen.
ARTHUR :
How many jars of oil did we lose?
KAY :
Over half of ‘em. I need your opinion on what punishment should be meted out.
ARTHUR :
…On Flor? Seven year old Flor?
KAY :
It’s never too early to take responsibility.
ARTHUR :
I’m not getting involved in this.
KAY :
Oh, by the way, Mordred’s waiting for you at the Round Table.
He wants to talk to you. It’s about the Grail.
ARTHUR :
[ sighs ]
I’m going to apologize to him for my behavior the other day.
KAY :
Why?
You were right.
There’ll be no Germanics at the Round Table.
ARTHUR :
As Bedivere put it, quite eloquently at that…
If my knights no longer believe in me,
what can they believe in?
…
Mordred, listen…
I know I’ve been⎯
MORDRED :
…Uncle.
Or should
I call you
Father?
I…
…meant to discuss a great many things with you.
To convince you that all I ever wanted was to be your knight…
…to fight for you.
But
none of this matters now.
Because nothing I could say or do
could change your mind, could it?
But not because of the prophecy⎯
Because of what I am to you.
Who else knows about this?
I have a right to know.
Who else has been judging me from the day that I was born,
all because of your mistakes?!
ARTHUR :
…
MORDRED :
…
It’s cruel, isn’t it.
I didn’t ask for any of this, and…
…I've always held you in high esteem…
…until now, I suppose.
Now that I think about it, I hardly even know you.
I always admired you through Gawain’s eyes.
ARTHUR :
…
Let go of Excalibur.
Right now.
I didn’t give you permission to touch my sword.
MORDRED :
…
I made a promise to Gawain.
I swore never to oppose you.
I mean to keep it.
But you’ll have nothing more from me.
MERLIN :
…Funny, isn’t it?
Excalibur, which once gave you the world, betrayed you.
I’m sorry.
ARTHUR :
…What can I do…
…Merlin…
…what must I…?
MERLIN :
…We’ll figure it out.
But…
…we have to plan for the worst.
[ back to tintagel! as if we weren’t doing bad enough! ]
SERVANT :
Afer you, sir.
Sir Tristan’s quarters have been left as they were.
DINADAN :
Heh. What a mess.
SERVANT :
Would you like to join Sir Palamedes
so I can show you both to Dame Iseult’s quarters?
DINADAN :
No need. I know the way.
SERVANT :
…
Sir…?
I…
…cannot guarantee everyone will keep their mouths shut after your meeting with Sir Mark. Many of us servants are still fond of him, despite everything that happened.
But I think we can all agree
that we’re worried about Sir Percival and little Isaye.
They vanished from one day to the next, so…
DINADAN :
…It’s just as well.
They both deserve to live well away from this royal bullshit.
You may go.
…
TRISTAN :
To the esteemed Sir Dinadan, Prince of Estrangore,
It is with great honor and utmost pride that I invite you to celebrate the birth of my child,
Isaye of Cornwall, here in Tintagel, on the occasion of her third month. I have no doubt you’ll pick an appropriate gift.
As I write, I’ll take this occasion to address our fight.
I regret the violence with which I treated you that day, and offer you my heartfelt apologies.
What I do not regret, however, is defending Iseult’s honor. Is that not my duty as a knight?
You’re probably rolling your eyes right now, I know.
We’ve gone through so much together, so this isn’t our first fight…
…but I would like it to be the last.
I don’t want our disagreements to come to this anymore. Perhaps it’s time for me to give up on questing altogether.
Maybe you’ve finally managed to be a good influence on me, but now that I am holding my child in my arms…
…she matters more to me than my honor, or my king’s.
I want to watch her grow up, and guide her on the path to chivalry.
So do know, my friend, that though I may no longer go questing with you,
I will never be truly gone.
My teachings and my ideals will live on in my Isaye’s heart. With her goes my hope for a better world.
After all, isn’t that what us knights are for?
To guide future generations, and bring them hope of a brighter, fairer tomorrow?
Give Brunor a hug for me.
And if your magnanimous heart brings you to Tintagel, to see my loves and myself…
…you will find us with open hearts,
genuine smiles,
and peaceful hearts.
[ the plaque reads, here lie tristan and iseult ; to rest in the otherworld, never to be parted. ]
