LAMORAK :
“To the distinguished knights of the Round Table…
You can come to see me at the Table, or meet up with me in France.
This is an urgent quest, so get moving.
Love, Arthur.”
AGLOVALE :
…That’s not what it says.
LAMORAK :
You asked me why I came back so soon, I’m not going to read you the entire letter.
For Arthur to go on a quest, though…
It's got to be bad.
Last time I saw him fight was during the rebellions, and that was over fifteen years ago.
AGLOVALE :
What can you do? Kings are very busy.
[ cough cough ]
LAMORAK :
Want me to bring you a little thyme infusion, your Majesty?
(* note : lamorak uses tu for aglovale here, making the title much less formal. )
AGLOVALE :
…You’d do that for me?
LAMORAK :
No. [ the cruelty of man ): ]
You’re sick all the damn time these days, though, it’s getting on my nerves.
AGLOVALE :
Someone has to stay behind and protect Camelot while the rest of you are off questing.
LAMORAK :
That’s not what I meant.
AGLOVALE :
Say it, then.
LAMORAK :
…….. I…………
……….am worried about you……….
AGLOVALE :
Ah.
Such love and kindness from my little brother.
This chest cold may bear me away now, my every wish has been fulfilled and I can die in peace⎯
LAMORAK :
Stop it!
AGLOVALE :
You were saying your trip to Corbenic wasn't much of a success, is that it?
LAMORAK :
Yeah, and having to leave so soon didn’t help.
Pelles wasn't expecting me, obviously. I think he’s lost the plot, though. He sounded very confused.
He told me about the Grail ceremony, the great families of Britain…
…and about our mother, too.
Last time he saw her, they got into a fight, and she had a baby with her. Probably me.
AGLOVALE :
…?
LAMORAK :
Any news from your end, besides your sorry state?
AGLOVALE :
Well, Kay has been in an abominable mood
since Morgan le Fay arrived at the castle unannounced.
LAMORAK :
Oh, true, he can’t stand her.
She’s not that bad, though. ( For an Orkney. )
Pretty easy on the eyes, too.
AGLOVALE :
Lamorak.
LAMORAK :
Anyway, Din just got back.
I saw him go into the Round Table room to speak with Arthur.
And by the look on his face,
I don’t think it’s going to improve Kay’s mood.
[ kay is Overjoyed. ]
GUINEVERE :
Come on, Kay, don’t be so grumpy…
Is it such a bother to have a tapestry frame set up?
Morgan and I would like to do a bit of embroidering.
KAY :
Guinevere, you know I’d pull the moon from the sky if you'd only ask.
But not for Morgan.
MORGAN :
Ah, Kay.
I daresay you’re aging like mediocre wine,
growing more bitter by the year.
KAY :
These things happen, when one lets themselves age.
Not that you’d know anything about that, Morgan.
GUINEVERE :
That’s enough, you two.
Airing out your disagreements outside of the family is quite unseemly.
KAY :
Family? Morgan is Arthur’s sister.
Not mine.
ARTHUR :
Brunor, King of Estrangore.
Glad to see you without a horse in the Great Hall.
Your brother told me about your situation. This I must tell you in person, from one king to another.
Right now, I can neither help you, nor offer you a viable solution.
Please, do not take this as a dismissal, but as a postponement.
Despite the implausibility of Dinadan’s story, I’m willing to believe him.
But first, I must go to the rescue of another king, who just became the collateral victim of an old grudge.
This said,
my beloved wife will rule in my absence. I would not leave her wanting for able swords.
GUINEVERE :
Arthur, please. Do you think me so vulnerable, with Morgan by my side?
ARTHUR :
By leaving, I leave you undermanned.
I’d rather not take the risk.
Is that what you want? To be left only with kitchen boys and a bedridden Aglovale to help you and my dear sister with your duties?
…Dinadan assured me you were a fine swordsman, Brunor.
Would you like to become a member of the Round Table?
You’d have to keep watch here, of course.
KAY :
Arthur⎯
ARTHUR :
I'd make everything official upon my return.
Do you feel up to the task?
BRUNOR :
…I expected a lot of things, but not this.
And I don’t think it’s what my father would have wanted…
But
my honor as a knight demands that I accept the task you’ve requested of me. I cannot in good faith leave the ladies defenseless.
ARTHUR :
Think about my offer, and prove yourself worthy of your title, sir knight.
But know that the armor of the Round Table would likely suit you better than this old mail.
BRUNOR :
My apologies, my lord.
I swore to wear it until justice is done.
GUINEVERE :
So let me repair it for you.
Something so important to you ought to be well taken care of, no?
Give it to me, and I’ll patch it up for you.
BRUNOR :
My queen, I cannot possibly ask you to⎯
GUINEVERE :
I am the one asking it of you, Brunor of Estrangore.
BRUNOR :
…If that is your wish, my queen…
…I’ll comply.
ARTHUR :
Very well.
Knights, prepare yourselves.
We leave tomorrow, at dawn.
MORDRED :
Uncle.
I wish you
much success on your quest.
ARTHUR :
…Thank you, Mordred.
KAY :
C’mon, ill-fitting coat, if you’re staying here, I need to show you a thing or two. Follow me.
BRUNOR :
…What did he just call me?
DINADAN :
Ill-fitting coat. Don’t sweat it, it’s Kay. He’s got a nickname for everyone.
BRUNOR :
What’s yours?
DINADAN :
Jokester number one.
BRUNOR :
Number two’s Tristan, isn’t it?
[ din nods ]
Of course it is.
See you later.
DINADAN :
Hey, Mordred, do you wanna come with me to accompany Arthu⎯
GAWAIN :
Absolutely not.
After what you told us, that was the last time I ever let you bring my brother on a quest.
MORGAN :
Gawain.
Don’t make a scene, please.
GAWAIN :
…We’ll talk about it tonight,
but don’t count on it.
MORDRED :
But⎯
GAWAIN :
This aside, Arthur would rather not bring any squire along.
You’ll stay here and keep Mother company.
DINADAN :
…We could still find a way.
If I keep you hidden long enough, she won’t be able to⎯
MORDRED :
I don’t want to go against her.
Being a knight also means
abiding by the king’s rules, as unfair as they may be.
DINADAN :
If you say so.
But alright.
If you’re not coming, then
I’ll give Percival a kiss myself.
MORDRED :
Don’t talk nonsense!
And I’ve got better things to do than stay with you!
Good day!
DINADAN :
Aww, don’t go off to sulk now…
MORGAN :
Gawain.
If you keep this up,
he’s going to hate you.
You know this, don’t you?
GAWAIN :
…Let him hate me, then.
As long as I can protect him from his grim fate.
And besides,
isn’t that what siblings do?
They watch over one another…
…even when the other doesn’t know it.
ROUND TABLE TRIVIA

MERLIN :
It reduces inflammation, treats fever, disinfects wounds, helps scarring… It’s a best-seller.

Thyme helps with a large panel of respiratory conditions.
AGLOVALE :
The sweet taste of “Lamorak made this”...
