AIP is the Autoimmune Protocol Diet
Simply put, this is a diet plan / life change that is recently (within the past 20 years) being recommended more and more to those people who suffer from Autoimmune Diseases.
Basically, AIP is an elimination diet that starts by eliminating foods that can cause inflammation and exacerbation of autoimmune conditions. It is a modified Paleo diet in which over time you add foods back into your diet by testing them one at a time and finding those that do not cause you personally adverse reactions.
Making AIP Easy!
The list of things you're allowed to eat is very simple and delicious!
Vegetables (excluding nightshades)
Fruits
Meats
Spices (excluding nuts, seeds, and nightshades)
This may seem like a short list, but please check out my recipe page (linked here) for ideas on quick easy ways to combine these foods for delectable meals that I know you'll LOVE as much as I do!
For a complete list of eliminated foods you can visit this resource.
After the first 30-60 days of the elimination phase of AIP, you will have already seen drastic changes in your body, mind and spirit, then you can begin the second phase where you reintroduce foods back into your diet. For me personally, I was able to lose 30+ pounds in the first 60 days in a healthy way that has truly transformed my life forever!
There are many theories on the best ways in which to perform reintroductions while following AIP. I have tried foods and then if I have a reaction, I know which item was new and can then isolate it again in about a week and test that particular item to make sure that it was the thing that caused my reaction. I really develop the nitty gritty details of reintroductions here.
This is a long process, but you know what??
You're worth it!!
Quick Note: AIP should be discussed with your healthcare professional/doctor prior to adopting it, as with any and all major diet changes, but for those of us who need this meal plan, it works wonderfully! I have seen so much positivity since starting my AIP journey and I truly believe in the healing powers of providing your body the foods that it craves.
