Congrats! You've completed the first 30 days of AIP
Didn't that go by so fast! I know I didn't even realize when I had completed the first 28 days and got so excited when I realized day 30 was just around the corner.
Now what??
The reintroduction phase is a very simple step to adding back foods that you used to enjoy, you've been eating so well on AIP that like me, you may not even miss or remember all of those foods today. That is just fine! You can start this phase anytime when you're ready.
The best way to test new foods is in small quantities and while making sure to eat only one new food at a time. This will ensure that you know if it causes any disturbances.
What could a side effect be??
Side effects/reactions to new foods can be anything from an upset stomach, to changes in mood, or any other symptom of your autoimmune condition. So you'll want to really pay close attention when adding a new food. You want to remember that taking it slow is the most important part. You've got the rest of your life to live happily and healthfully, so this is not an urgent issue since AIP has been working so well this far, it is worth taking the extra time.
How do I personally test foods??
I eat the food. Then I wait for side effects. Sometimes I notice right away that I have a reaction, sometimes it will be a day or two. I make sure to let my husband know when I've tried something new so that he can keep an eye out for reactions that I may not notice, such as mood changes etc.
IF the food doesn't cause me a reaction, I enjoy it again and again!!
So far I've personally added back peppermint and vanilla extracts, and guar gum! **Bring on the Mint/carob chip ice cream!! Yum!
I've had reactions to cashews, mustard, paprika, wine, salami, pepperoni, so I stay away from those.
Please see the resources below for additional information about adding foods back to your diet, and let me know if I can help you navigate this exciting phase!
