I am sorry, but I have a SUB today. I am going to IB training and will not be here 9/25 & 9/28. FIRST, today is a great day to get caught up on any missing work. I will list all assignments that need to be completed and should be posted to your portfolio. SECOND, finish your Focused Inspiration Board. THIRD, finish your Annotated Inspiration Board. If you get stuck on something, ask students for help.If you need help ask your neighbor and if they cannot help, the SUB has a list of students who can. Below are instructions for today's assignment that needs to be completed. ~Cornell

Laser Cut Project: Initial Focus & Inspiration

Today you will begin planning your laser cut project.

Step 1: State Your Initial Focus

On your Laser Cut Project page, clearly state which of the four project options you would like to develop. *See Example

Example: Initial Focus: I want to create a laser-cut wooden chair.

This is your initial focus and may change later as you continue developing your idea.

Step 2: Find Inspiration - Focused Inspiration Board

Find 20 amazing, creative, and inspirational designs related to your project idea. These can be:

Laser-cut designs
CNC-cut designs
Similar products or objects that inspire you

The purpose of this research is to gather ideas that can influence and improve your own project.

Place your 20 images into Adobe Illustrator and arrange them into an inspiration board.

Step 3: Annotate Your Ideas - Annotated Inspiration Board

Take a screenshot of your inspiration board and bring it into Adobe Photoshop. Copy & Paste

Using Photoshop, annotate the images by:

Circling design elements you love
Explaining why you like certain features
Crossing out ideas that you do not want to use
Writing notes about materials, shapes, patterns, and construction techniques
Identifying ideas that could help narrow the focus of your project

Your annotations should help explain what direction you want your project to take and what design decisions you are considering.

By the End of Class

You should have:
✅ An initial project focus statement
✅ 20 inspirational images - An inspiration board in Illustrator
✅ A Photoshop image with detailed annotations explaining your design thinking

Remember: The goal is not to copy an existing design. The goal is to gather inspiration and begin developing a unique idea for your own laser-cut project.
