SUNY has a few opportunity programs that target their population of students
Individual SUNY and private colleges also have their own programs that are offered to their students
The State University of New York's Arthur O. Eve Higher Educational Opportunity Program (HEOP) provides access, academic support and financial aid to students who show promise for succeeding in college but who may not have otherwise been offered admission. Available primarily to full-time, matriculated students, the program supports students throughout their college careers within the university system
Similarly, SUNY'S Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), which is offered to students at 50 different SUNY campuses. The program combines access, academic support and modest financial support to make higher education possible for students who have the potential to succeed, despite poor preparation and limited financial resources
The McNair Program is a U.S. government supported program, named after and dedicated to Astronaut Ronald E. McNair who died in the 1986 Challenger space shuttle explosion. The McNair program honors his extraordinary achievements by enabling all U.S. eligible college students to achieve and succeed academically
Students admitted to the program at CUNY, SUNY or private participating colleges will engage in research, seminars, and other scholarly and educational activities approximately for two years until graduation! Services to students include academic research, mentoring, graduate application assistance, academic advising, college visits, conference presentations and non-credit workshops and exposure to cultural events. McNair Scholars receive a stipend of up to $2,800 linked to accomplishing specific academic milestones and assistance in securing admission and financial support for enrollment in doctoral programs
The Graduate Opportunity Program (GOP) provides partial tuition assistance to New York State Opportunity Program (EOP, HEOP, SEEK) graduates who are admitted to a graduate degree program at a participating SUNY campus. GOP tuition scholarships are supported by participating institutions and are contingent upon the availability of funding
Documentation of a student's prior status as an opportunity program student is also required. Students who are interested in graduate study are encouraged to consult with their undergraduate program director
