Being selected for verification often means that you must upload additional documents to determine your financial aid award.
Applications are selected for verification either by the federal edit system or the college. If a student’s application is selected for review by the federal edit system, the school is required to verify selected items on the student’s application and collect certain required information and documents before awarding and disbursing their financial aid.
I sent out an email to students who were selected for verification.
To confirm if this is you or not, please log into your CUNYFirst account, go to Student Center, and view your Tasks and Holds. If the To-Do list mentions anything about a financial aid verification at the school you are attending, you must complete the tasks in order to remove it from your account.
You can also speak with an advisor or a person from your school's financial aid office that can help you remove this Hold on your account. Some Holds also prevent you from registering for classes, so if you are experiencing this issue, please contact your advisor.
Some of these video are taken from the older version of CUNYFirst (yes, it looked a lot worse before). So if you have any questions, please let me know! The process still remains the same.
There are many types of holds that can be on your account! The following are example of some Holds that do appear on CUNY students' accounts and the required action that must be taken:
CUNY Hunter College made a table about the potential holds and causes for these holds, as well as what actions to take. Solutions to these Holds can be contacting your advisor, or submitting a certain document through your student portal (which in this case is CUNYFirst)
You can upload the required documents through the Tasks and Holds section of your CUNYFirst account. Whatever document is needed for verification can be uploaded directly through CUNYFirst.
To verify that these documents were uploaded correctly, you can consult with your school's financial aid office to also ensure the validity of these documents.
