There are several ways to begin the college application process. Most students like to apply online through their university system's portal, the school's application website, other admission application websites, or in person at the school's admission office.
Some colleges, after applying, require that you pay an application fee which you can either pay or have a fee waiver.
You can apply to college at any time (as long as the college is accepting applications for the semester you wish to register for classes for). It is possible to apply to college a year or semester in advance so that you have time to hear back from their admissions decision and prepare before accepting an offer.
For example, students can begin applying for admission to some colleges for Spring 2025 instead of Fall 2024 so that when they graduate, they can review their offers, prepare and make a final decision.
**CUNY STUDENTS: IF YOU NEED TO PAY AN APPLICATION FEE, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!! I HAVE CUNY APPLICATION FEE WAIVERS THAT I CAN GIVE TO YOU SO THAT THIS CHARGE NO LONGER APPEARS**
Please also note that some CUNY schools have dual joint programs, so, if you are a transfer student, you can see if another school can accept your enrollment
The easiest way to apply to a CUNY college is through the CUNY Application website. Here, you can find two different portal or links for incoming students matriculating to a CUNY school! That is, if you are a transfer student, or an incoming freshman

If you are a student who wants to apply to private colleges (whether in or outside New York City) or a variety of different colleges (perhaps both, CUNY and SUNY schools), then you can consider Common App. The Common App is an undergraduate college admission application that applicants can use to apply to over 1,000 colleges and universities in all 50 U.S. states, as well as outside the U.S. if such a student wishes to study abroad!
The Common App can be used as a single online college application to apply to several colleges and university systems at once. The platform itself is free to use, but every college charges their own application processing fee
Additionally, applying to private or Ivy League schools can also be done one college at a time, through their school's website. Simply search up the school's name to start an application or a link that will take you to their admissions website
