Blackboard can also be used to get access to different textbooks at your school's library or database. However, if these books are too expensive, please refrain from purchasing them as you can easily find them online for rent or purchase
CUNY Blackboard is the CUNY platform that most students enrolled at CUNY will use for the courses they are registered for. Think of this platform as another Google Classroom!
On this website, yours professors will post assignments, grades, announcements, materials (including the syllabus), and exams (if the class is administered online)
Please keep in mind that not all professors use Blackboard as some administer the class differently than others. This is why using websites like Rate My Professor will help you gain insight on the professor's style of teaching, and what to expect on your first day of class
Please also note that as long as you are registered for a course, you will have access to the Blackboard course site until your professor closes it or makes it unavailable
You are not able to leave or exit a Blackboard course, even after your class is over. Unfortunately, if your professor does not close your course's Blackboard website, you will still see and have access to it (which can sometimes be helpful when retrieving work or data)
The same credentials you use to log into CUNYFirst, are also used to access CUNY Blackboard and DegreeWorks. You can access Blackboard through CUNYFirst, or through your college's website
If you are a CUNY transfer student, your CUNYFirst account is the same as it was before. If you are an incoming student, new to the CUNY system, your CUNYFirst account will be provided to you via email. If you are unsure about whether or not you received this email, please contact your advisor, or someone from your school to help you activate and retrieve your account as it is extremely important.
The standard username credentials for logging into your CUNYFirst account is your (FirstName.LastName + the last 2 digits of your CUNYID)@login.cuny.edu
For example, Emily.Johnson45@login.cuny.edu
Blackboard has several tools you can use, but the most useful and commonly-used tool that not a lot of students know about is the ability to send emails to your classmates!
If your professor makes the course available on Blackboard, you can see who your classmates are and even send an email to them. This is helpful for group projects, or even creating a group chat with your classmates to hold study sessions!
A tutorial of how to use this tool is shown below! Simply click your name on the upper right corner, click Tools, select a class, and carefully select all the users you would like to send an email to.
