In our linguistic labeling ("morphological gloss"), we show that a sign is repeated one or more times in exactly the same place, with the use of the "+" symbol. If it is repeated once, we add one symbol to the end of the sign label: +. If it is repeated more than once, we write two symbols: ++.
This repetition (called "reduplication" in lingusitics) has many uses in Bangla SL, but often it is simply used for emphasis and thus can appear when someone is presenting a sign for the first time. That's why you can see many reduplicated signs in our vocabulary list.
From what we understand, there is no meaningful difference between repeating a sign once, twice, or more times, as long as the sign remains in the same place. More research is underway to understand this better.
When the same sign is repeated three or more times, with each repetition appearing in a slightly different place, this is called triplication. This has a distinct usage in Bangla SL, and thus we mark it distinctly, with three + signs: +++. This is used to represent that the sign refers to multiple items, like a large number of seeds (CORIANDER), many pockmarks on the skin (POX), or a variety of fruits (FRUIT). This is different from the use of reduplication for emphasis.
